The Role

As a JavaScript / Node.js Developer at Revolution, you'll work at the backend of our product platforms \- SaaS\-grade applications we build and run for clients, not brochure sites. Think Node services, GraphQL APIs and PostgreSQL doing serious lifting, all running on AWS.

This role leans backend. The database isn't a place you dump data \- it's part of the product. You'll design schemas, write real SQL, build GraphQL APIs (we use PostGraphile heavily) and ship the services that sit behind platforms used by paying customers.

We're looking for someone mid\-senior to senior. You've built and operated production systems, you've felt the pain of your own past decisions, and you design better because of it.

What You'll Do:

API \& Platform Engineering

  • Design and build Node.js services and GraphQL APIs that power client product platforms.

  • Work with PostGraphile to expose well\-modelled PostgreSQL schemas as clean, performant GraphQL.

  • Build authentication, authorisation and integration layers \- SSO, webhooks, third\-party APIs.

  • Own features end to end, from data model to deployed endpoint.
Database Engineering
  • Design PostgreSQL schemas that are correct, performant and built to evolve.

  • Write real SQL \- functions, views, triggers, migrations \- and know when logic belongs in the database versus the application.

  • Diagnose slow queries and fix them properly, not just cache around them.

  • Work comfortably across PostgreSQL and MySQL where projects require it.
Cloud \& Operations
  • Deploy and run services across our AWS estate \- EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront.

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, environments and infrastructure decisions.

  • Help monitor production systems and respond to issues with calm and precision.

  • Treat observability, security and reliability as part of the job, not extras.
Product Collaboration
  • Work closely with frontend developers, designers and product stakeholders to turn requirements into shipped features.

  • Challenge specs constructively when there's a better way.

  • Communicate technical trade\-offs clearly to non\-technical colleagues.

  • Share knowledge and raise the standard of the team around you.
About You

You're a backend engineer who thinks in systems and data, not just code. You understand that a well\-designed schema and a well\-designed API are product decisions, and you take them seriously.

You'll need to bring:

  • 4\+ years of commercial JavaScript experience with strong Node.js backend work.

  • Genuinely strong PostgreSQL \- schema design, indexing, query optimisation, and confidence writing SQL beyond the ORM.

  • Experience building and consuming GraphQL APIs.

  • Real comfort working in AWS environments.

  • Experience with Git\-based workflows, code review and automated testing.

  • Excellent communication and sound judgement under pressure.
It would be helpful if you also have:
  • PostGraphile experience specifically, or a strong database\-first API mindset.

  • TypeScript in production.

  • Frontend awareness \- Vue in particular.

  • Experience with monitoring and observability tooling such as Datadog.

  • Experience with SSO/SAML integrations or security\-driven builds.

  • Agency or fast\-moving product SME experience \- multiple workstreams don't faze you.
And importantly you bring energy, curiosity, and a can\-do attitude that makes those around you better.

The Process

The interview process is two stages.

Stage one consists of a 30\-minute Google Meet call so that we can get to know you a bit better, and you can make sure we're a good initial fit for you.

For stage two, we'll ask you to complete a small technical task based on your previous experience. You will present the outcome of the task to us during a face\-to\-face interview at our head office and have the opportunity to ask us any questions you might have.

What You’ll Get

  • A fast\-paced, high\-performance environment that challenges and rewards excellence.

  • Access to cutting\-edge tools and continuous professional development.

  • The opportunity to work with major brands driving transformational growth.

  • A culture that values collaboration, ambition, and having fun while achieving exceptional results.

  • 24 days holidays (plus your Birthday off)
