International Indirect Tax Manager

Location: Central London

Salary: £90,000–£120,000 DOE + Annual Bonus

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

Working Pattern: Fully Office-Based

We are recruiting for an experienced International Indirect Tax Manager to join a fast-paced international business in Central London.

This is a hands-on position with a significant focus on international VAT and indirect tax relating to e-commerce and the cross-border movement of physical goods. We are particularly interested in candidates who have operated within a consumer goods, retail or e-commerce environment and understand the practical tax implications of selling products internationally.

The Role

You will take responsibility for day-to-day UK and international tax matters, with a particular emphasis on indirect tax.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing UK, EU and international VAT compliance


• Managing multi-country EU VAT registrations and reporting requirements


• Working with OSS and IOSS regimes


• Managing VAT implications of cross-border e-commerce transactions


• Understanding and applying marketplace facilitator rules


• Supporting the movement of physical goods across international borders


• Managing indirect tax considerations around imports, customs classifications and duties


• Working with external compliance partners across multiple jurisdictions


• Preparing and submitting UK VAT returns


• Working closely with international Tax and Finance teams


• Identifying tax risks and opportunities associated with international commercial activity


• Supporting wider corporation tax, tax accounting and compliance requirements


• Working with external auditors and advisors


• Improving tax controls, processes and procedures

The wider remit also includes UK tax compliance, tax accounting, overseas tax risk and supporting the business on commercial decisions.

About You

• Significant indirect tax/VAT experience within an international environment


• Hands-on consumer goods, retail or e-commerce VAT experience is highly important


• Strong practical understanding of the cross-border movement of physical products


• Experience with OSS/IOSS


• Experience managing VAT registrations across multiple EU jurisdictions


• Background working for a top 4 consultancy (PWC, Deloitte, KPMG, EY) very advantageous


• Knowledge of marketplace facilitator rules


• Experience with import duties and customs classification


• Strong understanding of UK and EU VAT


• Ideally currently working in-house, or with substantial hands-on in-house experience


• ACA, ACCA, CTA or equivalent qualification/experience


• Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills


• Comfortable working with international colleagues and external advisors


• Strong Excel and analytical skills


• Commercial, pragmatic and able to operate in a fast-moving environment

Candidates coming from a predominantly general VAT advisory background without significant hands-on experience of physical goods and cross-border e-commerce are unlikely to be the right fit.
