The Joint Vienna Institute (JVI), a regional training center established in 1992 by the Austrian authorities, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and several other international organizations, is inviting applications for the position of IT Officer.
The JVI provides high\-quality training to public sector officials from Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. In close collaboration with partner institutions, the JVI delivers courses, seminars, and workshops across a broad range of economic topics.
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Deputy Director and the IT Manager, the IT Officer works as part of a small team responsible for the JVI’s IT and audiovisual environment.
The Infrastructure Includes:
- Local area network, servers, and back\-up systems
- Security infrastructure (firewall, anti\-virus software)
- Video conferencing, interpretation, surveillance, and alarm systems
- Windows\-based workstations and Microsoft Office
- In\-house participant database and web applications
- Lecture and workshop room technology
- Building security and telephone systems
Key Responsibilities
IT Operations \& User Support
- Provide technical support to end users (staff and participants) and respond to IT incidents and service requests.
- Administer user accounts and apply structured incidents and problem management.
- Troubleshoot desktop, server, hardware, and software issues.
- Train staff on new tools and technologies; prepare guidelines and documentation.
- Support and participate in managing IT infrastructure, AV, interpretation, telephone, and security systems.
- Ensure systems are effectively protected while maintaining availability.
- Coordinate and support video\-conferencing activities.
- Set up IT equipment in lecture and workshop rooms according to course requirements.
- Maintain and enhance the JVI participant database.
- Maintain and further develop in\-house systems with C\#/JavaScript front\-end interfaces and SQL back\-end databases.
The role requires a broad technical skill set, strong problem\-solving ability, and a willingness to continuously learn new systems and applications.
Education \& Experience
- University degree in computer science, information systems, or related field (or equivalent professional training).
- Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in an international organization or academic/training environment.
- Solid knowledge of MS Windows Server OS, MS Exchange, MS SQL, VMware\-based server virtualization, Microsoft Office 365\.
- Advanced technical knowledge of Windows 11 and Microsoft Office 365\.
- Solid technical knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, Software deployment tools.
- Hands on experience with Software package deployment and desktop security solutions.
- Proven experience with Database concepts and operation, network management, and cloud migration/services management.
- Familiarity with C\# and SQL to support internally developed systems.
- Excellent problem\-solving skills and results orientation.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Good working knowledge of German is an asset.
- Experience with Moodle and/or Typo3\.
- ITIL certification.
This is a full\-time, fixed\-term position for an initial period of two years, with the possibility of renewal for up to eight years in total. The role offers a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications.
