Role: Infectious Prevention and Control (IPC) Outbreak Nurse – Register

Hours: UK-Med Register role, no guarantee of any work, but if deployed work will be full-time.

Remuneration: GBP £3,400 to GBP £4,400 gross per month (Dependant on experience and depending on deployment context, with up to 20% additional allowance for adverse conditions)

Duration: Register members who deploy will be offered fixed-term contracts. The duration will depend on the requirements of the response, but most outbreak responses are around 6 weeks with quarantine period).

Location: Internationally and/or to any of the UK-Med responses.

Are you an experienced Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Nurse skilled in delivery care in response to medical emergencies?

UK-Med is a frontline medical aid charity. Born of the NHS, we have been working for over 30 years towards a world where everyone has access to the healthcare they need when crises or disasters strike.

As UK-Med continues to strengthen its outbreak response capacity and preparedness for potential programming in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and other humanitarian contexts, we are seeking experienced Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Nurses to join our Register. Successful candidates will be available to travel and work internationally at short notice for a minimum of six weeks (longer availability is highly desirable). While this is a Register position, we will prioritise candidates with immediate or near-term availability to support our Ebola outbreak response activities in the DRC should deployment requirements arise. We will also prioritise applicants from those who speak French.

Our ideal candidates will be fully licensed and experienced IPC Nurses with a strong background in outbreak preparedness and response, ideally gained in humanitarian, emergency or low-resource settings. Candidates should have experience supporting infection prevention and control activities across both healthcare facilities and community settings, including assessing IPC practices, identifying gaps, developing improvement plans and supporting the implementation of corrective actions.

You will be confident working alongside national and international healthcare teams to strengthen IPC systems, improve patient and staff safety, and support healthcare facilities to respond effectively to infectious disease outbreaks. Additional qualifications or experience in training, facility assessments, quality improvement or project management would be an advantage.

You must hold a current nursing licence and be able to demonstrate current and unconditional registration with an appropriate professional body. A recognised qualification in Nursing is essential.

You will be determined, high performing, compassionate and collaborative, as well as being committed to learning and supporting others to learn. Language skills will be an advantage.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits along with a friendly working environment and the opportunity to make a real difference through an influential role in humanitarian programming.

At the same time UK-Med tries to provide feedback to applicants and share with them where they have fallen short in the competitive process, it may be very difficult to provide individual feedback. Especially looking at the large number of applications UK-Med receives and the multiple recruitments taking place at the same time, specifically during times of ongoing emergency surges.
