About Us
We are a high\-volume industrial bakery operating a fast\-paced, continuous production facility. Our site features 30 large\-scale continuous tunnel ovens alongside automated provers, conveyor networks, and packing lines. To minimize downtime and drive thermal efficiency across our primary baking assets, we are recruiting a full\-time, dedicated Industrial Combustion \& Controls Engineer.
Role Overview
You will be the on\-site technical authority for our continuous tunnel ovens. This is a multi\-skilled role balancing precision gas combustion tuning with industrial automation PLC fault\-finding and heavy mechanical drive maintenance. You will lead preventative maintenance (PPM) windows and react rapidly to operational breakdowns to protect our live production lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Burner Maintenance \& Tuning: Service, calibrate, and fault\-find high\-output forced\-draught package burners (*Weishaupt, Riello, Nu\-way, Eclipse*) across 30 multi\-zone tunnel ovens.
- Thermal Efficiency Optimization: Conduct regular flue gas analysis to adjust air\-to\-fuel ratios, ensuring optimal heat profile consistency, minimizing gas wastage, and keeping carbon emissions compliant.
- Electrical \& PLC Diagnostics: Read complex electrical schematics to diagnose faults within oven control panels. Troubleshoot loop controls, temperature zones, flame safeguards, and PLC systems (*Siemens S7, Allen\-Bradley, or Mitsubishi*).
- Mechanical Asset Maintenance: Oversee the structural mechanical health of the tunnel ovens, including high\-temperature conveyor chain tracks, gearboxes, extraction fans, and steam injection systems.
- Safety \& Dust Management: Execute strict safety inspections and deep\-cleaning maintenance programs to eliminate flour dust accumulation within burner air intakes and gas trains.
- Contractor Oversight: Coordinate and supervise external specialist engineering services or OEM field visits during major annual shutdowns.
- Mandatory Gas Certifications: Valid Gas Safe Registration with Commercial/Industrial Core tickets: COCN1 (Core Commercial Gas Safety), CIGA1 (Indirect Fired Commercial Appliances), and TPCP1 / TPCP1A (Testing \& Purging).
- Engineering Qualification: NVQ Level 3, City \& Guilds, HNC/HND, or time\-served apprenticeship in Electrical, Mechanical, or Maintenance Engineering.
- Industrial Experience: Proven background maintaining heavy thermal process machinery, ideally within an industrial food manufacturing or high\-speed FMCG environment.
- Automation Mindset: Competent in electrical fault\-finding with an understanding of process instrumentation and automated temperature controllers.
Benefits:
- Company pension
- On\-site parking
- Private medical insurance
- UK visa sponsorship
