Import, Export & Trade Compliance Manager

We are looking for an experienced Import, Export \& Trade Compliance Manager to take ownership of our import, export and trade compliance activities across the business. This role is responsible for protecting the business from customs, duty, regulatory and international logistics risks whilst ensuring goods move efficiently and compliantly throughout our supply chain.

Working closely with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers and internal stakeholders, you will provide expert guidance on customs and international trade matters, maintain robust compliance controls and identify opportunities to improve service, efficiency and cost performance across our international supply chain.

This is a key role supporting our continued growth, ensuring compliance with UK customs regulations, trade requirements and international logistics obligations, including movements into Ireland and other international destinations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the company's import, export and trade compliance framework.


• Act as the subject matter expert for customs and international trade matters.


• Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, customs legislation, commodity classification requirements, country of origin rules and import/export documentation standards.


• Manage customs declaration assurance processes, audits and corrective actions.


• Work closely with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers and suppliers to ensure efficient international movements.


• Set and maintain standards for customs data, supplier documentation and trade\-related master data.


• Monitor freight, duty and landed\-cost performance and identify opportunities for improvement.


• Develop and maintain policies, procedures, training materials and management reporting.


• Lead responses to customs queries, audits and compliance reviews.


• Manage, coach and develop the Import/Export Administrator and any designated support roles.


• Support wider Supply Chain projects and ensure appropriate compliance controls are embedded in new processes and supplier relationships.

• Proven experience in customs, import/export, international logistics or international trade compliance.


• Strong understanding of commodity classification, customs valuation, country of origin, Incoterms and customs declarations.


• Experience reviewing customs documentation and resolving compliance or clearance issues.


• Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders and overseas suppliers.


• Strong analytical and commercial skills with experience of freight, duty and landed\-cost analysis.


• Ability to translate technical regulations into practical processes, controls and training.


• Excellent attention to detail and risk awareness.


• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.


• Competence in Excel and ERP systems.


• Institute of Export \& International Trade, CIPS or equivalent professional qualification.

• Experience supporting HMRC audits and customs authorisations.


• Experience managing imports into Ireland.


• Experience within wholesale, engineering, HVAC or refrigeration sectors.


• Experience managing imports from Far East supply markets.


• Previous people management experience.


• Degree\-level education.

You take ownership, have strong attention to detail and are confident challenging processes where improvements can be made. You are equally comfortable dealing with technical customs requirements, analysing performance data and developing the people and processes needed to support long\-term success.
