HSE Manager

The role of the HSE Manager is to lead our Health, Safety and Environmental agenda across office and site operations. You’ll own our management systems, keep our certifications in great shape, and drive a practical, people\-first safety culture that improves how we plan, build and operate.

Requirements

  • Own the management systems: Maintain and improve Bohr’s ISO 9001 (Quality) certification, as well as look after and eventually implement the environmental (ISO 14001\) and Occupational H\&S (ISO 45001\) systems, ensuring documents are current, controlled and useful.

  • Certification \& audits: Plan and lead internal audits, manage external audits/surveillance, close out non\-conformities and corrective actions.

  • Legal compliance: Monitor and assure compliance with UK legislation incl., RIDDOR 2013, COSHH, PUWER, LOLER, CDM 2015 and (where applicable) DSEAR. Keep the legal register and compliance calendar up to date.

  • Risk \& RAMS: Set standards for risk assessments and method statements; review high\-risk RAMS; support permit\-to\-work, lock\-out/tag\-out and site safety plans.

  • Incident management: Lead incident and near\-miss investigations using root\-cause methods (e.g. 5 Whys, fishbone); track actions to closure and share learning.

  • Project support: Partner with Project Managers from bid through delivery \- H\&S plans, environmental aspects/impacts, quality plans, materials traceability, supplier quality.

  • Training \& culture: Deliver toolbox talks, inductions and targeted training; coach leaders and supervisors; promote reporting, learning and continuous improvement.

  • Supply chain assurance: Pre\-qualify and audit contractors and key suppliers; manage quality/HS\&E requirements in contracts and performance reviews.

  • Reporting \& KPIs: Produce clear HSE dashboards (e.g. audit completion, NCRs/CAPA, environmental metrics, training compliance) and board\-level insights.

  • Sustainability \& environment: Oversee waste, emissions and spill prevention controls; support ESG initiatives and client sustainability requirements.

  • Emergency readiness: Maintain emergency response plans and drills; ensure suitable equipment and competent first aiders/fire wardens.

  • Leadership: Line\-manage HSE Advisors/Coordinators (as applicable); set priorities and develop capability across the team.
What you’ll bring
  • Strong experience in a HSE leadership role within engineering, construction, utilities or energy projects.

  • Demonstrable success maintaining ISO 9001/14001/45001 certifications and running internal audit programmes.

  • Up\-to\-date knowledge of UK H\&S and environmental legislation and how to apply it pragmatically on live projects.

  • Competent Investigator with solid root\-cause skills and a track record of effective corrective/preventive actions.

  • Comfortable engaging on site—able to influence supervisors and subcontractors and turn policy into safe, efficient practice.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to produce concise reports and useful procedures.

  • Good data skills to build meaningful dashboards and spot trends.

  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.
Qualifications
  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (Diploma or equivalent experience desirable).

  • Lead Auditor qualification (ISO 9001 and/or ISO 45001; ISO 14001 an advantage).

  • Environmental qualification (e.g. IEMA Foundation/Practitioner) desirable.

  • Professional membership (e.g. IOSH/IIRSM/IQA/IEMA) or working towards.
Desirable
  • Experience under CDM 2015 with Principal Contractor/Principal Designer interfaces.

  • Utilities, renewables, gas/biomethane or similar high\-hazard environments (including DSEAR) exposure.

  • Supplier quality management and materials traceability for engineered products.

  • Behavioural safety programme implementation and/or digital HSE tools roll\-outs.
This is a full time, permanent position based in Stone, Staffordshire,

Full time working hours are Monday\-Friday 08\.30am\-17\.00pm.

Job Type: Full\-time
