The Major Rail Projects Group (MRPG) within the Department for Transport sponsors the delivery of High Speed 2 (HS2\), one of the UKs largest and most complex infrastructure programmes. As HS2 enters a critical Reset phase to improve cost, schedule and performance, strong sponsorship is more important than ever.
As an Assistant Delivery Sponsor, youll play a key role in ensuring HS2 delivers value for money while maintaining progress. Youll work closely with HS2 Ltd, providing oversight, challenge and support across major work packages, while helping to inform Ministers and senior leaders.

Job description
This role supports the sponsorship and oversight of HS2 delivery, either focusing on Old Oak Common Station or Main Works Civils across Phase One of the programme.
Youll ensure delivery partners are performing effectively across cost, schedule and scope, while supporting decision\-making at the highest levels of government.
Your responsibilities will include, but arent limited to:
- Monitoring and reporting delivery performance against cost, schedule and scope
- Analysing data to identify risks, trends and opportunities
- Providing robust challenge to HS2 Ltd and delivery partners
- Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Supporting responses to emerging delivery issues and risks
- Briefing Ministers and senior officials on project performance
- Contributing to cross\-programme learning and continuous improvement
- Visiting sites to build understanding of delivery progress

Person specification
Required experience:
To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:
- Experience working with management information or performance data to generate insight and support decision\-making
- Experience communicating complex issues clearly to senior stakeholders
- Experience building effective working relationships across organisational boundaries
Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements
Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.
Occasional travel to project sites and other offices will be required, which may involve overnight stays. Particularly with the Old Oak Common role with regular visits to site.
The successful candidate must either hold or be willing to work towards the Government Project Delivery Accreditation once in role.
