About Us
Priority Express is a fast\-growing, Bristol\-based courier and logistics business specialising in multi\-drop deliveries across the South West and beyond. We operate a mixed fleet of employed drivers and self\-employed owner\-drivers, with a strong focus on service, performance, and continuous improvement.
As part of our continued development, we are looking for an experienced HR professional to take ownership of our people function and able to commit between 30\-35 hours per week.
The Role
This is a hands\-on, standalone HR role supporting a busy, operational business.
You’ll work closely with the Managing Director and leadership team to ensure:
- Strong people management across the business
- Compliance with UK employment law
- Effective recruitment and retention of drivers and staff
- Consistent handling of performance, conduct, and absence
Responsibilities
Recruitment \& Resourcing
- Manage end\-to\-end recruitment for drivers and office staff
- Build and manage relationships with agencies
- Oversee onboarding, inductions, and right\-to\-work checks
- Act as the main HR contact across the business
- Manage disciplinary, grievance, absence, and performance processes
- Support managers with people issues and decision\-making
- Oversee relationships with self\-employed drivers in line with contractual terms
- Support and coach managers on people management
- Conduct and oversee performance reviews
- Identify training needs and coordinate development activity
- Maintain accurate HR records (Sage HR)
- Ensure policies, contracts, and processes are compliant and up to date
- Monitor HR metrics (absence, turnover, recruitment performance)
- Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with organisational goals
- Experienced in an HR Manager role
- Confident handling challenging conversations and operational issues
- Comfortable working in a fast\-paced, logistics or similar environment
- Strong on employment law and HR best practice
- Highly organised, pragmatic, and solutions\-focused
- Proven experience in human resources management
- Excellent management skills with the ability to lead teams effectively
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficiency in data analysis to interpret HR metrics and generate insights
- Strong presentation skills for delivering training sessions \& team updates
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast\-paced environment
- Relevant qualifications in human resources or related fields are desirable

- CIPD Level 5 or 7 (or equivalent experience)
- Experience working with drivers, field teams, or contractor models
- Experience using Sage HR
