HR Adviser

Salary: £35,000–£39,000 per year, depending on experience
Hours: 40 paid hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm
Location: Wemyss Lodge, Swindon, SN3 4LH — on site

About the role

Wemyss Lodge is looking for an experienced HR Adviser to provide practical advice to managers, support employee wellbeing and help maintain a fair, supportive workplace.

This is a varied, hands\-on role combining employee relations, HR administration and staff welfare. You will be approachable and compassionate, while confident in your professional judgement and willing to constructively challenge decisions when needed.

Previous experience as an HR Adviser is essential. You must hold a minimum of CIPD Level 3; Level 5 is desirable.

Your responsibilities

  • Provide clear, practical HR advice to managers on employee relations, policies and procedures.

  • Support and manage employee relations cases, including absence, disciplinary, grievance and performance matters, escalating where appropriate.

  • Help managers conduct fair investigations and meetings, maintaining accurate records and supporting appropriate follow\-up.

  • Apply your knowledge of employment law and HR good practice to day\-to\-day decisions.

  • Constructively challenge approaches that may be inconsistent, unfair or inappropriate, offering practical alternatives.

  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the home and build positive relationships with employees.

  • Conduct and document sensitive staff welfare meetings and supportive attendance check\-ins.

  • Support new starters through onboarding, helping them feel welcomed and understand where to find support.

  • Signpost employees to occupational health, the Employee Assistance Programme or other appropriate services.

  • Recognise safeguarding concerns and follow the appropriate reporting procedures.

  • Maintain accurate, confidential employee records and prepare HR correspondence and documentation.

  • Follow up outstanding references, forms, certificates and other employment documentation.
What we’re looking for

Essential:

  • Previous experience working as an HR Adviser.

  • A minimum of CIPD Level 3\.

  • Experience handling a range of employee relations matters, including cases with some complexity.

  • A sound working knowledge of UK employment law and HR procedures.

  • Confidence advising managers and constructively challenging decisions.

  • The ability to handle sensitive conversations with empathy, discretion and professionalism.

  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and accurate record keeping.

  • Good IT skills and clear written and verbal communication.

  • The ability to prioritise a varied workload and follow matters through to completion.

  • Knowledge of adult safeguarding and appropriate reporting procedures.
Desirable:
  • CIPD Level 5\.

  • Significant experience working in a CQC\-regulated care, healthcare or social care environment.
Working pattern

Your usual hours will be 9:00am–5:00pm, Monday to Friday, with all breaks paid.

This is an on\-site role. You must be able to reliably commute to Wemyss Lodge or relocate before starting.
