Cork Simon Community is currently recruiting Housekeeping Assistants for both fixed\-term and casual positions within our Emergency Housing Oriented Services (EHOS).

As a Housekeeping Assistant, you will play an important role in maintaining clean, welcoming and safe environments for people using Cork Simon Community services. Working as part of the housekeeping team, you will carry out cleaning, laundry and other housekeeping duties across our properties, including the Emergency Shelter, Day Service and other areas of the Anderson’s Quay complex.

This role requires someone who takes pride in their work, has high standards of hygiene and cleanliness, and can work respectfully and sensitively around people who may be experiencing challenging circumstances.

You will work closely with the housekeeping and care teams to ensure that service users and tenants are supported and respected in their living environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cleaning: Carry out general cleaning of bathrooms, hallways, stairs, common areas and residents’ or tenants’ bedrooms.


• Hygiene: Clean and disinfect surfaces, including frequently touched areas, in line with infection control and hygiene guidelines.


• Deep Cleaning: Carry out deep cleaning using specialist equipment such as buffers, steam cleaners, scrubbers and wet pick\-up machines.


• Laundry: Collect, wash, dry, fold, store and distribute bed linen and other laundry using industrial laundry equipment.


• Quality Environment: Maintain clean, welcoming, safe and comfortable environments for service users, tenants, staff and volunteers.


• Record Keeping: Complete daily and weekly cleaning checklists and maintain appropriate records.


• Equipment \& Products: Use cleaning products and equipment safely and efficiently and assist with the management of cleaning supplies as required.


• Teamwork: Work cooperatively with the housekeeping and care teams to ensure cleaning needs are met.


• Service User Support: Respond respectfully to feedback and concerns regarding accommodation and facilities, passing issues to the appropriate Team Leader or manager.


• Health \& Safety: Follow all health and safety procedures, use appropriate protective equipment and take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of others.


• Fire Safety: Participate in fire drills and follow emergency evacuation procedures.


• Flexibility: Carry out other appropriate housekeeping duties as requested by your supervisor and provide flexibility where required across Cork Simon Community services.

· Cleaning Experience: At least one year’s cleaning or housekeeping experience in a large setting is desirable.

· High Standards: A strong commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation.

· Teamwork: Ability to work effectively with colleagues to meet daily and weekly cleaning requirements.

· Organisation: Ability to prioritise tasks, manage workload and work to deadlines.

· Communication Skills: Good communication and interpersonal skills.

· Reliability: A dependable and responsible approach to attendance and completing assigned duties.

· Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing workloads and the needs of the service.

· Respect and Empathy: A non\-judgemental, sensitive and patient approach when working with people experiencing homelessness or challenging circumstances.

· Health \& Safety: Awareness of safe working practices, manual handling and the safe use of cleaning products and equipment.

· Initiative: Ability to identify cleaning needs and use initiative when prioritising tasks.
