Hotel Facilities Assistant
Job type: Full\-time, Permanent
Department: Facilities
Reports to: Facilities Manager

Camden Court Hotel is seeking a practical, reliable and service\-focused Hotel Facilities Assistant to join our Facilities Team.

This is a hands\-on, all\-round role supporting the day\-to\-day upkeep, safety, presentation and smooth operation of the hotel. You will work across guest bedrooms, public areas, back\-of\-house spaces, staff areas and external grounds, helping to ensure our guests and colleagues enjoy a safe, comfortable and well\-maintained environment.

This is not a fully qualified electrical, plumbing or HVAC technician role. However, the successful candidate will have good practical maintenance skills, an awareness of building services and the confidence to carry out routine repairs, identify faults and escalate specialist issues appropriately.

The role

As a Hotel Facilities Assistant, you will support the Facilities Manager with planned and reactive facilities work throughout the hotel. No two days will be the same: one day you may be responding to a bedroom issue, carrying out painting or furniture repairs, checking lighting or doors, and the next you may be assisting with contractor access, completing routine inspections or supporting facilities projects.

You will play an important role in maintaining the standards our guests expect, responding professionally to requests and helping prevent issues before they affect hotel operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out routine, non\-specialist repairs and general upkeep throughout the hotel, including guest bedrooms, public areas, meeting spaces, staff areas and back\-of\-house locations.

  • Complete general building\-fabric tasks including painting, minor carpentry, furniture repairs, door and lock adjustments, fixtures and fittings, sealant work and basic cosmetic repairs.

  • Carry out basic, authorised plumbing\-related tasks such as replacing washers, addressing minor leaks, replacing shower heads, unblocking simple drainage issues and reporting more complex faults for specialist attention.

  • Complete routine checks of lighting, sockets, heating, ventilation, air\-conditioning and other building\-services issues, escalating faults to the Facilities Manager or approved contractor where required.

  • Respond promptly to maintenance and facilities requests from Front Office, Housekeeping, Food and Beverage, Events and other hotel departments.

  • Assist with room inspections and facilities rounds to identify defects, hazards and presentation issues before they affect guests or operational standards.

  • Support planned preventive maintenance activities and ensure scheduled checks are completed and recorded.

  • Keep plant\-access areas, workshops, equipment stores and facilities work areas clean, safe and organised.

  • Assist with monitoring the condition of hotel equipment, furniture, fixtures, fittings and building fabric.

  • Support the Facilities Manager with contractor coordination, including arranging access, monitoring work areas and ensuring contractors comply with hotel safety procedures.

  • Assist with the management of facilities stock, tools, materials and consumables, reporting replenishment requirements in a timely manner.

  • Record completed work, outstanding faults, materials used and contractor activity through the hotel’s maintenance system or job log.

  • Report recurring defects, potential safety concerns and work requiring specialist support to the Facilities Manager.

  • Assist with emergency repairs and make areas safe where appropriate, escalating high\-risk or specialist issues immediately.

  • Follow all hotel health and safety, fire safety, security, environmental and safe\-working procedures.

  • Use tools, equipment and personal protective equipment safely and report damaged or unsafe equipment without delay.

  • Deliver a professional, helpful and discreet service when working in guest\-facing areas.

  • Carry out other reasonable facilities\-related duties as requested by the Facilities Manager.
About you

You will be practical, organised and proactive, with a genuine interest in maintaining high standards within a busy hotel environment. You will understand that facilities work in hospitality is not just about fixing things — it is about supporting guest comfort, safety, appearance and the smooth running of the entire hotel.

You will be comfortable working independently, while also communicating closely with the Facilities Manager, other hotel departments and external contractors.

Essential skills and experience

  • Previous experience in hotel facilities, hospitality maintenance, property services, general building maintenance or a similar practical role.

  • Strong all\-round practical skills, including minor repairs, painting, basic carpentry, furniture and fixture repairs and general building\-fabric maintenance.

  • Basic awareness of plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation, air\-conditioning and other building services.

  • Ability to carry out first\-line checks, identify faults and recognise when specialist electrical, plumbing, HVAC or other contractor support is required.

  • Good awareness of health and safety and the safe use of tools, equipment and materials.

  • A positive, flexible and solution\-focused approach to work.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to deal professionally with guests, colleagues and contractors.

  • Ability to prioritise tasks in a busy environment and respond calmly to changing operational requirements.

  • Good attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards of presentation.

  • Good written and spoken English.

  • Flexibility to work across a hotel operation, including occasional weekends, evenings or emergency cover where required.
Desirable experience
  • Previous experience in a hotel, leisure, residential, healthcare, commercial property or customer\-facing environment.

  • A facilities, maintenance, building\-services or trade\-related qualification.

  • Experience using a maintenance\-management system, job\-logging platform or CAFM system.

  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plant rooms, building\-management systems, water hygiene, fire safety systems or energy management.

  • Manual handling, Safe Pass, first aid, fire warden or other relevant safety training.
What we offer
  • A varied and practical role within a professional hotel environment.

  • The opportunity to develop broad facilities and building\-services knowledge.

  • Training and development opportunities.

  • A supportive team culture with a strong focus on guest experience, safety and quality.
