We are seeking a highly organised and commercially minded Buying Assistant to support our Homeware Buying Team in delivering innovative and profitable product ranges.
The Role
The Buying Assistant will play a key role in supporting product development, supplier management, stock planning, and range administration across our homeware categories. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in buying, product development, or merchandising within a fast\-paced retail environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduct \& Buying Support
- Assist buyers in developing and sourcing new homeware and gifting products.
- Research market trends, competitors, and emerging product opportunities.
- Maintain accurate product information and pricing within internal systems.
- Support product launches by coordinating samples, specifications, and photography requirements.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and range reviews for buying meetings.
- Liaise with UK and international suppliers regarding product specifications, pricing, lead times, and deliveries.
- Track purchase orders and monitor supplier performance.
- Assist in negotiating pricing and commercial terms where appropriate.
- Ensure all product compliance documentation is obtained and maintained.
- Monitor sales performance and stock levels.
- Produce weekly and monthly trading reports.
- Identify opportunities for replenishment, markdowns, or product optimisation.
- Support forecasting and demand planning activities.
- Raise and manage purchase orders.
- Maintain product databases and buying records.
- Coordinate product samples and showroom organisation.
- Ensure product information is accurate across all channels.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Confident using Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.
- Strong communication and relationship\-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Commercial awareness and interest in retail trends.
- Previous experience in a buying, merchandising, retail, or product administration role.
- Experience working with homeware, giftware, interiors, or lifestyle products.
- Knowledge of ecommerce retail operations.
- Experience working with overseas suppliers.
- Passion for home interiors, gifting, and product trends.
- Curious and proactive approach to problem solving.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Positive team player with a willingness to learn.
