Do work you can feel proud of this summer

Do work that helps people stay independent, live well, and stay connected to the life they value.

June brings longer days, lighter mornings, and a natural sense of fresh energy. It’s a brilliant time to start something meaningful and to help others feel stronger, steadier, and more confident in their day\-to\-day lives.

At Abney \& Baker, we’re a preventative care provider, not a traditional care agency. Our focus is on helping people stay active, confident, and in control for as long as possible. Our team doesn’t just respond to problems we help prevent them.

If you’re looking for a role where your time, judgement, and compassion genuinely make a difference, this could be the right next step.

Why join Abney \& Baker?

We believe great preventative care starts with valuing the people who deliver it.

What you can expect:

Excellent pay – Earn up to £32,500, with competitive hourly rates and flexible shifts.

Full shift pay – Get paid your full rate for your full shift, including any gaps, travel time, or waiting time.

Reliable hours – No zero\-hour contracts. You’ll know your schedule and can plan your life.

Time to care properly – Minimum 30\-minute visits, plus paid travel and waiting time at your full rate.

Your voice matters – You’re closest to our clients. Your observations and ideas shape how we help people stay well.

Clear career progression – A structured Carer Levels pathway, with most managers starting as carers.

Full training provided – Paid induction and ongoing development, whether you’re new to care or experienced.

Strength \& mobility coaching opportunity – If this interests you, you may have the chance to train alongside your care role and become a coach in strength and mobility, a brilliant development pathway for people who love helping others move well and stay independent.

“You’re listened to, supported, and trusted. You really feel part of something that matters.” – Abney \& Baker Carer, Indeed Review Your role as a Care \& Support Team Member

You’ll be a consistent, reassuring presence, supporting people to live safely and confidently at home.

Because we work preventatively, your role is about more than tasks. It’s about noticing changes early, encouraging healthy routines, and helping people maintain independence for longer so they can keep doing the things that matter to them.

Your visits may include:

  • Preparing meals and supporting good nutrition

  • Encouraging safe mobility and supporting medication routines

  • Promoting healthy habits and gentle activity

  • Providing companionship and meaningful conversation

  • Helping with light housework or personal care

  • Spotting early signs of potential issues and helping prevent crises
Every visit is an opportunity to protect someone’s independence and quality of life and help them feel more like themselves.

What we’re looking for

  • A kind, reliable, and empathetic nature experience welcome, but not essential

  • A UK driving licence and access to your own car

  • The right to work in the UK

  • Availability for 7am–3pm and/or 3pm–10pm shifts, discussed at interview

  • Flexibility to work alternate weekends

  • Willingness to travel across our service areas \- this role is not based in one fixed location. You’ll need to be comfortable supporting clients in different local areas, which may include Melksham and surrounding towns/villages, depending on business and client needs.
A role with purpose

This is more than a job. It’s a chance to be part of a team that puts prevention before crisis, people before process, and carers at the heart of everything we do.

At Abney \& Baker, your work helps people age well, stay independent, and live life on their own terms. Your voice also helps us continuously improve how we support people.

Apply today and start summer with work that truly counts with a team where you’re valued, supported, and given room to grow.
