Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled, resilient and compassionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a specialist setting, supporting pupils with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those requiring intensive levels of support.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience of working with children and young people with complex needs, including learning difficulties, communication needs, sensory differences, and behaviours that may challenge. They will be confident in supporting pupils to achieve positive outcomes both academically and socially while promoting independence, wellbeing and personal development.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high\-quality learning activities and interventions under the direction of teaching staff.


• Provide intensive support for pupils with complex SEND needs.


• Support pupils displaying challenging behaviours using TEAM TEACH positive behaviour support approaches.


• Implement emotional regulation strategies to help pupils develop self\-awareness, resilience and coping skills.


• Model and promote effective communication and interaction strategies.


• Lead small group/whole\-class learning activities as directed by the teacher.


• Contribute to pupil assessment, progress monitoring and review processes.


• Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, families and external professionals to support individual pupil outcomes.


• Maintain a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• HLTA status or equivalent relevant qualification and experience.


• Significant experience working with pupils with SEND within a specialist or comparable setting.


• Proven ability to manage and de\-escalate challenging behaviour in a calm and professional manner.


• Strong knowledge and practical experience of emotional regulation approaches and interventions.


• Understanding of autism, social communication differences, sensory needs and associated strategies.


• Excellent communication and relationship\-building skills.


• The ability to work flexibly, proactively and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.


• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Essential Qualifications

• HLTA Status or equivalent recognised qualification


• Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, Education, or a related field.

Desirable Qualifications

• Team Teach, or equivalent behaviour support training.


• Makaton, PECS, training.


• First Aid at Work or Paediatric First Aid qualification.

Essential Experience

• Experience of supporting children and young people with complex needs and high levels of dependency.


• Behaviour Management and Positive Behaviour Support.


• De\-escalation and Emotional Regulation Strategies.


• First Aid (or willingness to undertake training).

SEND\-specific training relevant to the needs of the school.

• Desirable Experience


• Experience of supporting children and young people with complex needs and high levels of dependency.


• Managing and de\-escalating challenging behaviour in a calm and professional manner.


• Practical experience of emotional regulation approaches and interventions.
