About the Role We are recruiting on behalf of a secondary school seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of History to join their team from September 2026 to cover a period of maternity leave.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated practitioner to deliver high-quality History teaching, alongside some PSHE and RE, within a supportive and well-established department. The role is full-time and offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on students’ understanding of the world and society.

The Role: Teacher of History As a Teacher of History, you will deliver engaging and thought-provoking lessons, encouraging students to develop critical thinking skills and a deep understanding of historical events and contexts.
In addition to History, you will also contribute to the delivery of PSHE and RE, supporting students’ personal development, wellbeing, and understanding of diverse perspectives.
You will work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure high-quality teaching and a consistent, supportive learning experience for all students.
What You Will Do • Deliver high-quality History lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
- Teach PSHE and RE as part of a broader curriculum offer
- Plan engaging lessons that challenge and support all learners
- Assess, monitor, and track pupil progress, adapting teaching accordingly
- Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
- Support curriculum delivery and contribute to departmental planning
- Encourage critical thinking, discussion, and reflection
- Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and positive student engagement
- Contribute to the wider school community and enrichment opportunities
- Strong subject knowledge in History
- Ability to deliver PSHE and RE effectively (support provided where needed)
- Ability to engage and motivate learners of all abilities

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
