Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Accrington, Lancashire
Start Date: ASAP / Flexible
Contract: 4 days per week, Temporary (initially for two terms)

A welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school in Accrington, Lancashire is seeking to appoint a committed and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their dedicated support team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled HLTA to play a key role in supporting teaching and learning, delivering targeted interventions, and covering lessons when required.

The Role

  • Support teaching and learning across a range of subjects and year groups (KS3 and KS4)

  • Deliver planned lessons in the absence of the class teacher

  • Provide targeted intervention support for individuals and small groups

  • Assist in managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive learning environment

  • Work closely with teaching staff and SENCO to support students with additional needs

  • Contribute to assessment, monitoring, and reporting on student progress

The Ideal Candidate Will:
  • Hold relevant HLTA status or equivalent experience

  • Have experience working within a secondary school setting

  • Demonstrate strong classroom management and communication skills

  • Be confident leading whole classes when required

  • Be adaptable, proactive, and able to work effectively as part of a team

  • Have a commitment to supporting students of all abilities, including those with additional needs

This role is offered on a part-time basis (4 days per week) and is initially for two terms, with the potential for extension depending on school needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
