An Opportunity to Build Something

The Drain Guys are looking for an experienced HGV Tanker Driver with drainage industry experience to join our growing business and help develop our tanker division from the ground up.

This is more than a driving role. We are seeking someone who wants to play a key part in building a successful tanker operation and has the ambition to progress into a leadership role as the division expands.

Initially, the role will involve operating our tanker fleet and supporting drainage operations. As the tanker division grows, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership of the department, helping shape its direction, processes, service offerings, and future team growth.

For the right person, this role offers a clear pathway to becoming Tanker Division Manager. We are looking for someone who wants to help build the division, drive its success, and ultimately lead it. As the tanker operation expands, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to take responsibility for its day\-to\-day management, operational performance, future recruitment, and continued growth.

Key ResponsibilitiesTanker Operations

  • Operate HGV tanker vehicles safely and professionally.

  • Carry out drain cleaning, jetting, liquid waste removal, septic tank emptying, flood response, and specialist tanker services.

  • Complete vehicle checks and maintain equipment to a high standard.

  • Ensure compliance with all Health \& Safety and environmental regulations.

  • Deliver excellent customer service on every job.
Supporting the Wider Business

As our tanker division continues to grow, there will be periods where tanker work is lighter. During these times, you will:

  • Support drainage engineers with drainage maintenance and reactive works.

  • Assist with depot organisation and equipment maintenance.

  • Support operational teams where required.

  • Help identify opportunities to increase tanker utilisation and revenue.
Building the Tanker Division
  • Work closely with management to develop and grow the tanker division.

  • Assist in identifying new service opportunities and operational improvements.

  • Help establish systems, procedures, and best practices for the division.

  • Contribute ideas for fleet expansion, equipment requirements, and service development.

  • Help drive sales opportunities by identifying customer requirements and potential new business.

  • Support the recruitment, training, and development of future tanker staff as the division grows.
What We're Looking ForEssential
  • HGV Class 2 (Category C) Licence.

  • Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card.

  • Proven drainage industry experience.

  • Experience operating tanker, vacuum, or jetting equipment.

  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take ownership.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to work independently and solve problems.

  • Ambition to progress into a leadership position.
Desirable
  • HPWJ qualification.

  • Confined Space certification.

  • Previous experience supervising staff or leading projects.

  • Experience helping grow or develop a service\-based operation.
