We are currently seeking a Skilled Heavy Plant Engineer to join our team based mainly at our Myers Aggregates/Johnsons Wellfield site, Huddersfield on a permanent, full\-time basis.

Myers Aggregates is the loose aggregates division based at Johnsons Wellfield, our historic Crosland Hill Yorkstone quarry, that also operates an established Dimension Stone and highly sophisticated stone production facility from its Crosland Hill Quarries in Huddersfield, which is part of the progressive family\-owned Myers Group.

The primary aim of this position is to undertake Heavy Plant inspections and repairs mainly focusing on mobile plant/equipment and machinery to meet both legal and regulatory requirements, minimise unplanned downtime and identify opportunities for improvement in all areas including health, safety \& efficiency.

Main duties and key responsibilities will include:

  • Work closely with the Site Supervisor and Site Manager to ensure equipment is maintained and breakdowns are dealt with in a timely manner.

  • Servicing, maintenance, and repair of heavy mobile plant machinery, including diggers, dumpers, excavators, and other construction equipment.

  • On occasion work around the group on heavy plant to support operations eg Myers Skip Hire / Bagging / Readymix.

  • Carrying out fault diagnosis and repairs both on\-site and at customer locations.

  • Completing all relevant documentation and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

  • Responding to breakdowns and ensuring timely completion of tasks.

  • Providing excellent customer service and ensuring a high level of workmanship.

  • Assisting the Operations Manager with planning maintenance spend and forecasting.

  • Provide updates of work progression and communicate any unforeseen problems which may cause delays in a timely manner to allow for planning around such problems.

  • Take an active part in all training sessions required by and provided by the company.

  • Work within a team, share knowledge and workload with other team members.

  • Carry out all work to comply with both health and safety standards and engineering best practice set by the company.

  • Liaise with operational Supervisors and Managers.

  • Ensure all work is documented and recorded using the systems provided and report any system problems/failings to enable improvements in the recording and implementing of tasks to be made.

  • Carry out supervision and training of apprentices as and when required.

  • Carry out supervision of contractors on site as and when required.
Preferred skills, experience and attributes:
  • Proven experience working with heavy plant machinery.

  • Relevant qualifications in plant maintenance or a similar field Ability to work independently and manage your own workload.

  • Strong diagnostic and repair skills.

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Team player who is keen on continually improving plant performance.

  • Have a suitable fitness level to conduct work appropriately.

  • Able to prioritise and carry out a diverse range of tasks.

  • Must possess working knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics and mechanical principles relating to petrol engines, diesel engines and power transmission systems.

  • Maintain knowledge of the required skills to undertake the role.

  • Must have good communication skills.

  • Must possess good time management and organisational skills.

  • Must be self\-motivated and have the ability to solve problems at source.

  • Must have a positive attitude and clear focus.

  • Must be sufficiently mobile and flexible to work beyond the call of duty to achieve results.
