Location: Scotland (Central Belt) with occasional travel throughout the UK as required

Reporting To: Project Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Salary: £35,000 – £45,000, dependent on experience

We are seeking an experienced and motivated HVAC Engineer / Supervisor to join our team. This role combines hands-on engineering expertise with site supervision responsibilities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

The successful candidate will possess strong technical HVAC knowledge, F-Gas certification, leadership skills, and the ability to oversee site teams whilst maintaining excellent client relationships.

Purpose of the Role

The HVAC Engineer / Supervisor will be responsible for the installation, servicing, maintenance, fault finding, and commissioning of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. In addition, they will supervise operatives and subcontractors on site, ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with programme requirements, specifications, health and safety legislation, and RPJ Energy Solutions’ quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Duties

  • Installation of commercial heating systems.

  • Installation and maintenance of ventilation systems including: Heat Recovery Units (HRUs), Extract ventilation systems, Ductwork systems, Air Handling Units (AHUs) – refurbishment or replacement, Heat pumps and Fans and associated controls

  • Installation, servicing, maintenance, and fault finding of HVAC equipment.

  • Refrigerant pipework installation and pressure testing.

  • System commissioning and performance testing.

  • Diagnosing and rectifying faults within heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.

  • Ensuring all installations comply with applicable regulations, standards, and manufacturer requirements.

  • Completing commissioning records, service sheets, and testing documentation.

  • Assisting with project handovers and client demonstrations where required.

Supervisory Duties
  • Supervision of engineers, apprentices, labourers, and subcontractors.

  • Allocation and coordination of daily labour and site activities.

  • Conducting site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.

  • Monitoring productivity and workmanship standards on site.

  • Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety legislation, RAMS, and company procedures.

  • Liaising with Project Managers, Contracts Managers, clients, consultants, and principal contractors.

  • Monitoring project progress against programme and reporting any delays or issues.

  • Identifying and reporting variations, technical issues, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Ensuring accurate completion of site documentation and quality inspection records.

  • Supporting and mentoring junior engineers and apprentices.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

Mandatory

  • F-Gas Category 1 Certification

  • CSCS Skilled Worker Card

  • SSSTS Qualification

  • SVQ/NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, or Mechanical Services Engineering.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within commercial HVAC installation and maintenance.

  • Proven experience supervising engineers and subcontractors.

  • Experience working on live construction and refurbishment projects.

  • Full UK Driving Licence.

  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and site safety procedures.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

  • Excellent fault-finding, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and organisational abilities.

Desirable
  • IPAF Certification.

  • PASMA Certification.

  • First Aid at Work.

  • Gas Safe Registration.

  • BPEC Heat Pump Qualification.

  • Working knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS).

  • Experience with renewable heating and energy technologies, including:Air Source Heat Pumps, Ground Source Heat Pumps and Solar Thermal Systems.
