Health & Safety / Compliance Manager
Ashcroft Services Ltd are a growing roofing and construction contractor delivering works across domestic, commercial, and public sector contracts, often within live, occupied environments.
We are looking to appoint a Health \& Safety / Compliance Officer to take ownership of compliance across our projects and help drive high standards across the business.
This is a key role focused on ensuring all works are delivered safely, legally, and in line with required standards — from pre\-start through to completion.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing health, safety, quality, environmental and compliance across multiple live sites, supporting site teams and ensuring full compliance with all legal, contractual, and client requirements.
You will also maintain the “golden thread” of compliance information, ensuring all documentation, certification, and records are accurate, up to date, and audit\-ready at all times.
This is a hands\-on role involving a combination of site inspections, audits, training, reporting, and day\-to\-day compliance management.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all works comply with UK legislation and regulations, including HSAW Act, CDM 2015, COSHH, Working at Height, and all relevant building regulations
- Support compliance with Principal Contractor duties under CDM 2015, ensuring Construction Phase Plans and site documentation are maintained
- Develop, review, and update health \& safety policies, procedures, and systems
- Carry out regular site inspections, audits, and quality checks, ensuring works align with approved specifications and safe systems of work
- Undertake and review risk assessments and implement preventative measures to minimise accidents and incidents
- Oversee preparation, review, and approval of RAMS (Risk Assessments \& Method Statements)
- Maintain full compliance documentation, certification, and digital records, ensuring a clear audit trail is always in place
- Manage the golden thread of information across projects to ensure transparency and accountability
- Monitor and manage subcontractor compliance, including competence checks, RAMS approval, and ongoing site performance
- Ensure the safety of residents, the public, and site operatives, particularly on occupied or live sites
- Act as the main point of contact between site teams, management, clients, and external regulators
- Deliver toolbox talks, inductions, and training, ensuring all staff follow safe working practices and procedures
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
- Identify risks early and put in place practical mitigation strategies to prevent delays or non\-compliance
- Monitor, track, and report on health \& safety performance, incidents, and trends
- Support ISO\-aligned quality and environmental management systems, audits, and continuous improvement processes
Requirements
- Experience in a Health \& Safety / Compliance role within construction or roofing
- Strong knowledge of UK health \& safety legislation, CDM regulations, and building compliance requirements
- Experience carrying out site inspections, audits, and quality assurance checks
- Ability to produce and review RAMS and compliance documentation
- NEBOSH (General Certificate or Diploma) or IOSH qualification preferred
- Understanding of construction methods, materials, and build quality
- Full UK driving licence
- Someone proactive and solutions\-focused, not just ticking boxes
- Strong analytical and problem\-solving skills with the ability to identify and manage risk early
- Confident communicator able to work with operatives, management, clients, and external bodies
- High attention to detail, whilst keeping projects moving and not overcomplicating delivery
- Organised and capable of managing multiple sites and compliance requirements simultaneously
- Willing to challenge poor practice and drive real improvements on site
