We are seeking a dynamic Head of Department to take full responsibility for the end\-to\-end supply chain function within a FMCG environment. The role is accountable for procurement, import/export operations, demand planning, inventory control, logistics, compliance, and supply chain performance optimisation. The postholder will ensure continuity of supply, cost control, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency across the business.

Key Accountabilities \& Responsibilities

1\. Procurement \& Supplier Management

  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with domestic and international suppliers.

  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and service level agreements.

  • Monitor supplier performance against agreed KPIs (cost, quality, service, compliance).

  • Identify and mitigate supply risks within a volatile and seasonal market.

  • Ensure raw materials meet required quality, traceability, and food safety standards.
2\. Import \& Export Compliance
  • Oversee all import and export activities, ensuring accurate documentation and customs compliance.

  • Ensure adherence to all relevant food safety, traceability, and international trading regulations.

  • Liaise with freight forwarders, customs agents, and regulatory bodies as required.

  • Maintain up\-to\-date knowledge of regulatory changes affecting seafood imports/exports.
3\. Demand Planning \& Inventory Management
  • Lead demand forecasting and production planning processes.

  • Maintain optimal inventory levels in a short shelf\-life environment.

  • Minimise waste, stock loss, and obsolescence.

  • Align procurement and supply planning with production schedules and sales forecasts.
4\. Logistics \& Distribution
  • Manage inbound and outbound logistics operations.

  • Oversee third\-party transport providers, ensuring temperature\-controlled distribution.

  • Maintain cold chain integrity across the supply network.

  • Monitor delivery performance and implement service improvements where required.
5\. Systems, Reporting \& Data Analysis
  • Analyse supply chain data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.

  • Develop and maintain forecasting models and performance reports using Microsoft Excel.

  • Ensure accurate master data management within supply chain systems.

  • Support implementation and optimisation of specialist supply chain software (including SI where applicable).
6\. Leadership \& Continuous Improvement
  • Lead, manage, and develop the supply chain team.

  • Set departmental objectives aligned with business strategy.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and cost\-saving projects.

  • Promote cross\-functional collaboration between operations, quality, finance, and sales teams.

  • Develop and maintain exceptional communication channels amongst all departments, upholding teamwork and collaboration to drive business success.

  • Lead with integrity aligning actions with Copernus core values, fostering trust through honesty, transparency, and accountability. Key practices include following through on commitments, admitting mistakes, and making ethical decisions even under pressure.
Authority Levels
  • Authority to negotiate supplier contracts within agreed financial limits.

  • Authority to approve purchase orders within budget parameters.

  • Escalation of strategic supplier agreements or significant commercial risks to senior management.

  • Level of purchasing to be agreed with the OD or MD
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Supplier service level performance.

  • Cost control and margin improvement.

  • Forecast accuracy.

  • Inventory turnover and stock waste reduction.

  • On\-time delivery performance.

  • Compliance with import/export and food safety regulations.

  • Effective leadership including meaningful 1\-2\-1s with direct reports.
FMCG experience is essential.

Pay: Up to £65,000\.00 per year
