What does the average day look like?

In this role you will lead a high performing occupational health team to deliver an outstanding service that genuinely supports the health, safety and wellbeing of Network Rail colleagues. You will set the tone for clinical and operational excellence, creating an environment where people are empowered to do their best work and services are continually evolving to meet the needs of a complex and critical workforce. You will take ownership of health surveillance programmes, ensuring they are robust, compliant and effectively delivered, while always looking for ways to improve quality, consistency and impact.

You will work closely with senior leaders and a wide range of stakeholders to shape the future of occupational health across the organisation, bringing clarity, influence and confidence to every conversation. By using insight and performance data, you will drive meaningful improvements, strengthen governance and ensure the service remains responsive and forward thinking. This is a role for someone who thrives on making a difference, combining clinical expertise, strategic leadership and collaboration to raise standards and improve outcomes for people across Network Rail.

Our Occupational Health team plays a vital role in supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of colleagues across Network Rail. We provide expert clinical and advisory services that help to keep people safe, well and able to perform at their best in a unique and safety critical environment.

We are a collaborative, forward thinking team made up of occupational health professionals who are passionate about delivering high quality care and continuously improving the service we provide. Working closely with leaders and stakeholders across the business, we take pride in making a meaningful difference every day to the people who keep the railway running.

Your experience and skills
------------------------------

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a registered General Nurse or experienced occupational health professional with a recognised degree in Occupational Health or equivalent qualification, ideally including Part 3 of the NMC register. You will bring strong clinical credibility alongside proven experience of leading and developing high performing teams, creating an environment where people are supported, motivated and able to deliver their best work.

You will have a strategic mindset and the ability to translate organisational priorities into clear, practical delivery within a complex operational setting. Your background will include senior clinical operations or clinical relationship management, with experience of managing client and customer relationships across the full service lifecycle. Just as importantly, you will be confident working with senior and executive stakeholders, using advanced influencing and negotiation skills to build trusted relationships and secure agreement for meaningful change. A strong understanding of occupational health principles, legal requirements and risk management would be an advantage, along with a genuine passion for improving workforce health outcomes.

Essential Criteria

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN), Degree in Occupational Health and/or equivalent professional education

  • Proven ability to lead and manage effective teams

  • Strategic outlook, including the ability to drive delivery of strategic objectives

  • Highly skilled senior clinical operations and/or clinical relationship manager with experience in managing end\-to\-end client and customer relationships

  • Advanced influencing and negotiation skills to develop mutually beneficial relationships

  • Executive level stakeholder relationship management capability
