Head of English (Maternity Cover to Christmas)

Are you an inspirational English teacher with the leadership skills to drive excellence across a thriving department?

We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Head of English to join a successful secondary school on a maternity cover contract through to Christmas. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate leader to shape teaching and learning, support staff development, and raise attainment across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of delivering outstanding classroom practice, leading curriculum development, and inspiring both students and colleagues to achieve their full potential.

The role will involve:

• Leading and managing the English department.


• Driving high standards of teaching, learning and assessment.


• Monitoring student progress and implementing effective intervention strategies.


• Developing and supporting teaching staff through coaching and mentoring.


• Delivering engaging and challenging lessons across KS3, KS4 and KS5.


• Contributing to whole-school improvement and raising attainment.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).


• Experience of departmental leadership or significant middle leadership responsibility.


• Excellent subject knowledge and a passion for English.


• A proven ability to raise standards and improve outcomes.


• Strong communication, organisation and leadership skills.
