Head of Community Engagement
Main Purpose of the Job
The Head of Community Engagement will lead a community\-focused income generation strategy that aligns Gloucester Rugby’s Community and Commercial functions to maximise impact and revenue.
This role will connect community programmes with commercial opportunities, ensuring that partnerships deliver meaningful social value while also driving sustainable income growth.
The post holder will develop compelling propositions that attract investment from businesses, public sector partners, and funders, while ensuring strong alignment between community delivery, commercial objectives, and the club’s mission: To Win. For our community and each other.
Key Accountabilities
- The successful candidate will play a key strategic role in driving income, partnerships, and long\-term sustainability across Gloucester Rugby’s community and foundation activity.
- Lead and deliver a clear, community\-focused income generation strategy that supports the Club objectives
- Drive sustainable revenue growth through community programmes, affiliation schemes, group ticketing, and social value partnerships
- Identify and secure new commercial and funding opportunities across private, public, and third\-sector partners
- Align Community and Commercial teams to maximise shared value, income opportunities, and audience growth
- Develop high\-impact partnerships that align business objectives with meaningful community outcomes
- Act as the main point of contact for community partners and funders, building trusted, long\-term relationships
- Manage the full partnership lifecycle, including onboarding, delivery alignment, reporting, and renewals
- Line manage the Account Manager to maximise retention, upsell opportunities, and added value across marketing and commercial activity
- Build and maintain strong relationships with businesses, schools, clubs, charities, and key local stakeholders
- Represent Gloucester Rugby at networking events, partner meetings, and community forums
- Ensure a strong community presence that enhances the Club’s reputation and local impact
- Translate community programmes into attractive, fundable partnership packages
- Work closely with delivery teams to ensure programmes are fundable, scalable, and achievable
- Ensure programme delivery aligns with partnership commitments, agreed outputs, and impact measures
Lead the delivery in schools for our Project Rugby program, Camps, Matchday Experiences and EDF Cups to improve player experiences and opportunities.
Build strong relationships with schools, colleges, universities and community groups to grow participation and performance opportunities.
Support schools in developing and developing players, teachers, referees, and volunteers.
Organise and facilitate ongoing CPD programs and innovative game formats, such as touch, T1 and walking rugby.
Collaborate with schools to strengthen local partnerships and grow rugby participation.
Manage and mentor teachers, ensuring effective local delivery and alignment with strategic goals.
Report on activities, outputs, and progress against objectives, maintaining professional standards.
This role may include community\-based delivery, match day events, festivals, cups and other programmes. It will also require working some evenings and weekends as needed.

Monitoring and Evaluation
Track and report on income performance, partnership outcomes, and social impact
Contribute to funding applications, proposals, and partnership pitches using data, case studies, and impact evidence
Produce regular performance updates for senior leadership, trustees, and partners
Ensure robust monitoring and evaluation processes are maintained

Qualifications, Experience \& Knowledge
Essential
Proven experience in income generation, partnerships, or business development
Experience working with corporate partners, funders, or public sector stakeholders
Strong commercial awareness and ability to develop revenue\-generating products
Ability to build and manage strategic relationships
Experience in bid writing, proposals, or securing external funding
Strong communication, influencing, and negotiation skills
Ability to interpret and present impact data effectively
Organised, proactive, and results\-driven
IT literate, confident using Microsoft Office and CRM/reporting systems
Desirable
Experience within sport, charity, or community development sectors
Knowledge of social value frameworks and impact measurement
Understanding of local stakeholder landscape (corporates, education, health, local authorities)

A passion for sport and an understanding of wider issues relating to sport, sport development experience, EDI, health and education
Personal circumstances must allow the candidate to work extended hours on occasion during times of peak activity including evenings and weekends

Contract length: 12 months
Pay: £35,000\.00\-£40,000\.00 per year
