Head of Commercial
Duration: 6 months initially
Rate: day rate, inside IR35 (flexible, depending on experience)
Working pattern: Hybrid
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Commercial to lead and drive commercial activity across a large and diverse service portfolio.
This role will focus on delivering income generation, commercial growth, and service transformation, whilst ensuring high-quality customer experience and sustainable financial performance across commercial venues, events, and wider community-based services.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of commercial strategies and income generation plans
- Identify and implement new business development and commercial opportunities
- Drive improvements across commercial venues, events, leisure, and cultural services
- Oversee commercial performance, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
- Lead service transformation and embed a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
- Develop strong partnerships with stakeholders, external organisations, and community groups
- Use market analysis and performance data to inform commercial decisions and service delivery
- Manage contracts, procurement activity, and supplier relationships
- Lead and develop high-performing teams across commercial operations
- Work closely with senior leadership and elected members to support strategic priorities
- Proven experience operating in a senior commercial leadership role within a local authority or similarly complex organisation
- Strong background in income generation, commercial strategy, and business development
- Experience managing commercial venues, cultural services, events, or leisure-related operations
- Strong financial management, budgeting, and forecasting capability
- Experience leading service transformation and organisational change
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and partnership management skills
- Strong commercial acumen with a customer-focused mindset
- Ability to work effectively within politically sensitive environments
