Glaucoma Specialist Nurse
An opportunity has arisen for a part time Band 6 Glaucoma Nurse Specialist within St.Paul's Ophthalmic Outpatients.
This post is part of a Multi\-Disciplinary Team dedicated to the assessment , monitoring and treatment of patients with Glaucoma . It will involve seeing Glaucoma patients within the outpatient department in nurse led clinics.
The post holder will act as a point of contact for existing and newly diagnosed glaucoma patients.
The post holder will contribute to Research , Audit and Practice Development.
Will deputise for the Band 7 manager.
It is essential that the applicant has at least 2 years experience working within an Ophthalmic setting.
The applicant must possess a relevant Ophthalmic Nurse Specialist qualification.
An ANEX 21 ( training post ) may be considered in order to gain the required competencies. ( 75% of the Band 6 will be paid until completion of competencies )

Perform specialist assessment of patients nursing needs, plan, implement and
evaluate care delivery using advanced clinical knowledge and clinical skills.
- Lead clinical care by managing a patient caseload providing expert assessment,
- Co\-ordinate and manage nurse/AHP\-led clinics (within Speciality).
- Contribute towards a multi\-professional approach in the management of patients
discharge arrangements.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers /
- Support patients and their families and ensure that they receive the required
delivery.
- Recognise changes in patients condition that require the intervention of others
- To support, assist and encourage the multi\-disciplinary team in resolving patient
- To lead the specialist nursing contribution to the service, work in partnership with
standards of patient care.
- Work with the Matron to promote the development of nurses/AHP's undertaking

The Clinical Nurse/AHP Specialist will act as the clinical expert and professional
resource to the multi\- professional team, patients and carers within their
Speciality Service.
- The post holder will have a responsibility to develop the specialist area of practice
to develop services and improve the quality of care delivered.
- The post holder will carry responsibility for either a defined case load or offering
assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation
of programmes of care, management and education.
- The post holder will contribute to achieving the objectives of the clinical service
framework.
