Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic General Manager to oversee the daily operations within one of Great British Inns Country Dining Branded Venues, The Wheatsheaf. The Wheatsheaf is a busy, village pub that serves fresh food and quality drinks. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive restaurant and hospitality experience, and a passion for delivering exceptional customer service.

This role involves managing staff, ensuring food safety standards are met, and maintaining the overall efficiency of the venue. The successful applicant will play a pivotal role in driving business growth and fostering a positive working environment.

Duties

  • Lead and supervise all venue operations, ensuring high standards of service and quality.

  • Oversee food preparation, cooking, and presentation to ensure consistency and excellence.

  • Manage staff schedules, recruit new team members, and provide ongoing training to optimise team performance.

  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and health \& safety standards across all departments.

  • Monitor inventory levels, order supplies, and manage food production processes efficiently.

  • Develop and implement operational policies to improve customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

  • Handle customer complaints or concerns promptly to maintain a positive reputation.

  • Coordinate with kitchen staff on menu planning, culinary standards, and special dietary requirements.

  • Maintain financial records, control costs, and optimise revenue streams through effective management strategies.

  • Foster a welcoming environment that promotes teamwork, professionalism, and hospitality excellence.
Skills
  • Proven supervising experience within the hospitality or restaurant industry.

  • Strong team management skills with the ability to motivate staff and lead by example.

  • Extensive restaurant or hotel experience with a solid understanding of food preparation, cooking, and food safety standards.

  • Knowledge of culinary practices, food production processes, and kitchen operations.

  • Excellent leadership qualities with the ability to organise multiple tasks efficiently under pressure.

  • Exceptional communication skills to liaise effectively with staff, suppliers, and customers.

  • Experience in managing food service operations such as serving or barista roles is advantageous.

  • Familiarity with health \& safety regulations relevant to the hospitality sector.
