General Manager – Joinery Company Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive General Manager to oversee the operational and commercial performance of our joinery business. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing client relationships, securing and delivering projects, coordinating with the Assistant General Manager and Workshop Manager, and ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
The role requires a strong blend of technical joinery knowledge, project management capability, and commercial awareness to support the continued growth and success of the business.
Key Responsibilities Business \& Operational Management
- Oversee the day\-to\-day operations of the business, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and profitably.
- Work closely with the Assistant General Manager and Workshop Manager to coordinate resources, production schedules, and project delivery.
- Monitor business performance and identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
- Support the development and implementation of company processes and operational procedures.
- Conduct customer meetings and site visits to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients throughout project lifecycles.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities.
- Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction through effective communication and project delivery.
- Prepare accurate quotations and project costings using JMS software.
- Review drawings, specifications, and client requirements to produce competitive and commercially viable quotations.
- Follow up submitted quotations and negotiate where required.
- Monitor project costs to ensure margins are maintained.
- Carry out site surveys and measurements to assess project requirements.
- Identify potential challenges, access restrictions, and installation considerations.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, architects, and designers to ensure project requirements are fully understood.
- Produce clear survey information for the workshop and project teams.
- Manage projects from initial enquiry through to completion.
- Develop project programmes and ensure milestones and deadlines are achieved.
- Coordinate with the Workshop Manager to ensure manufacturing schedules align with project requirements.
- Liaise with installation teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor project progress, budgets, variations, and risks.
- Resolve issues promptly to minimise delays and maintain client satisfaction.
- Work closely with the Assistant General Manager to support business operations and strategic objectives.
- Provide leadership and guidance across departments to ensure effective communication and teamwork.
- Facilitate regular project review meetings and progress updates.
- Ensure projects are delivered to company quality standards and client expectations.
- Promote compliance with company policies, health and safety regulations, and industry best practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the business.
Requirements
- Proven experience within the joinery, fit\-out, or construction industry.
- Previous experience in a management or senior project management role.
- Strong understanding of bespoke joinery manufacturing and installation processes.
- Experience preparing quotations and costings.
- Proficiency with JMS software or similar estimating and project management systems.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and financial understanding.
- Excellent communication and client\-facing skills.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of commercial, residential, and bespoke joinery projects.
- Relevant construction, joinery, or project management qualifications.
- Experience in business development and client account management.

Pay: £35,000\.00\-£50,000\.00 per year
