General Driver / Grounds Maintenance Worker

• Pay Rate: £13.69 per hour (PAYE)

Rochdale Council are looking for a dedicated General Driver / Grounds Maintenance Worker to join our Environmental Management team. This role involves a variety of tasks aimed at maintaining and enhancing the council's green spaces. The position is based at Green Lane and requires a full UK driving licence.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Carry out general gardening and grounds maintenance duties across various council green spaces.


• Operate a range of equipment including pedestrian, hand-held, and ride-on machines for grass cutting.


• Perform strimming, hedge trimming, shrub maintenance, and edging.


• Engage in weed removal and general street cleansing activities.


• Litter picking and emptying litter bins as required.


• Lead small groups in daily tasks, ensuring efficiency and safety.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Physically fit and able to handle manual tasks.


• Reliable with a willingness to learn all aspects of horticulture.


• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.


• Flexibility to work in different parts of the borough and to work overtime on an ad-hoc basis as needed.


• Full UK driving licence is essential.


• Desirable: Qualification in Horticulture (NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent).


• Desirable: Pesticides application Certificate PA1 & PA6.
