This role is essential in supporting frontline policing by helping to maintain effective working environments across the organisation.
You will be assigned to designated areas within the Bedfordshire estate to complete scheduled cleaning tasks, while also responding to urgent or ad\-hoc requirements as needed. You will be responsible for the safe use of equipment and cleaning products in line with COSHH and Health \& Safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities

Safely use cleaning equipment, chemicals, and PPE in line with COSHH regulations and Health \& Safety procedures
Follow colour\-coded cleaning systems and safe task sequencing to prevent cross\-contamination
Accurately complete cleaning records, including logs and reporting any issues or shortages
Identify and report hazards, maintenance issues, or security concerns promptly
Respond flexibly to operational priorities, including urgent or reactive cleaning requirements
About You
You will be a dependable and proactive individual who takes pride in maintaining high standards.
You will have:
Experience delivering consistent cleaning standards, ideally across multiple sites
Knowledge of hygiene practices and safe use of cleaning products
Understanding of Health \& Safety requirements in a workplace setting
Experience using cleaning equipment or machinery
Ability to follow procedures, instructions, and schedules
Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks
Good communication skills and the ability to work with colleagues at all levels
Basic IT skills (e.g. email, reporting, timesheets)
You must also be able to:
Work independently and use initiative
Undertake physical tasks including standing, bending, and lifting equipment
Successfully pass police vetting (RV level)
Undertake a basic police driving test (where required for the role)
Desirable Skills \& Experience
Experience in public sector, emergency services, healthcare, or similar environments
Familiarity with infection control processes and touchpoint cleaning standards
Full UK driving licence
Additional Requirements
Willingness to undergo police vetting
Flexibility to work outside normal hours when required
Commitment to confidentiality at all times

Additional Information
All internal applicants must have successfully completed their probationary period to apply for this role.
Please be advised that as part of the Vetting Process the BCH Vetting Unit may be required to contact your current line manager for a Supervisor Appraisal. This is in line with the 2025 National Guidelines for Vetting (APP 6\.5\.18\). Please see examples below of when this would be a necessary requirement:
When an individual is applying to transfer forces
When an individual is having their vetting renewed
When an individual is moving into a role that needs MV clearance, even if they are already in a role that requires MV
When an individual is moving into or already in a role working closely with vulnerable individuals
If any of the above relate to your circumstances, then please expect that your current line manager will be contacted for a Supervisor Appraisal at the point of submitting your vetting application.
