Overall Job Purpose

The Fundraising Manager provides leadership, direction and operational oversight across several fundraising income streams, supporting the achievement of income targets and sustainable growth. The role is responsible for team performance, resource and budget management, supporter relationships, governance and compliance, and ensuring fundraising activity strengthens CancerCare’s profile, sustainability and impact.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership, Management \& Team Development

  • Provide day\-to\-day leadership and management to part of the fundraising team, including 1:1s, objective setting, KPIs, performance management, coaching and development.

  • Foster a collaborative, high\-performing culture focused on income generation, supporter experience and organisational impact.

  • Manage annual leave, attendance and sickness in line with organisational policy, ensuring sickness is reported to HR appropriately.

  • Set clear expectations and provide constructive feedback, support and challenge to ensure agreed targets are achieved.

  • Provide guidance and strategic support to colleagues, helping them develop fundraising activity, overcome challenges and meet income and activity targets.

  • Identify training and development needs, supporting colleagues to build their knowledge, skills and confidence.

  • Delegate effectively, ensuring workloads, resources and support are appropriately managed.

  • Act as a senior point of contact for the fundraising team and provide decision\-making and operational leadership in the absence of the Head of Fundraising \& Marketing, including responding to urgent or unforeseen circumstances and maintaining service continuity.
Strategy, Planning \& Performance
  • Support the Head of Fundraising \& Marketing with the development and delivery of the fundraising strategy, annual budgets, operational plans and income\-generation objectives.

  • Take responsibility for agreed annual budgets, income targets, KPIs and activity plans, with a focus on sustainable net income growth across events and community fundraising.

  • Support the planning and delivery of CancerCare’s fundraising events, ensuring they are appropriately resourced, delivered on time and within budget.

  • Translate strategic objectives into clear operational plans, measurable targets and KPIs.

  • Monitor team, event and income performance, identifying trends, risks, opportunities and areas requiring intervention, and take appropriate action.

  • Prepare accurate and insightful management reports for the Executive Leadership Team, analysing performance, risks, progress against targets and future opportunities.

  • Use data and performance information to improve activity and maximise return on investment.

  • Horizon scan the charity and fundraising environment, identifying relevant trends, opportunities, events, partnerships and best practice.
Supporter Relationships \& Fundraising Systems
  • Lead the effective use of the fundraising database, Beacon, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant recording of supporter and financial information.

  • Maintain high\-quality supporter data in line with GDPR and organisational policies.

  • Develop strong supporter relationships through effective stewardship, motivation, guidance and recognition to maximise income and encourage long\-term engagement.
Governance, Compliance \& Risk
  • Ensure fundraising activity is safe, ethical and compliant with relevant legislation, CancerCare policies and procedures, the Chartered Institute of Fundraising’s Code of Fundraising Practice, Charity Commission requirements and Fundraising Regulator standards.

  • Ensure appropriate risk assessments, permissions, safeguarding, financial controls and other legal and compliance requirements are in place.

  • Keep up to date with regulatory, legislative and best\-practice developments and ensure these are reflected in fundraising activity and team practices.

  • Identify, manage and appropriately escalate operational, financial, reputational and compliance risks.
Internal \& External Relationships
  • Work closely with the Head of Fundraising \& Marketing on strategic and organisational initiatives.

  • Support the organisation and delivery of corporate events, engaging the local business community and developing corporate income.

  • Identify and develop event sponsorship opportunities to increase income, profile and reach.

  • Work with Engagement and Development Officers to advocate for CancerCare locally and communicate its therapy services, mission and impact confidently to external stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with the Marketing Department to provide accurate and timely promotional, campaign and PR information to maximise fundraising reach and impact.

  • Promote all fundraising income streams and opportunities across the organisation.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with corporate partners, community groups, volunteers, supporters, event participants and other stakeholders.

  • Represent CancerCare at meetings and events and act as an ambassador, enhancing the charity’s profile, reputation and understanding within the communities it serves.
Financial \& Operational Management
  • Take ownership of agreed fundraising budgets and resources, ensuring effective management, forecasting, monitoring and value for money.

  • Regularly review processes and systems to improve efficiency, income generation, supporter experience and team effectiveness.
Organisational Responsibilities
  • Manage workload effectively, prioritising competing demands and maintaining an up\-to\-date online calendar using appropriate systems, including Microsoft Outlook.

  • Demonstrate a proactive, positive and solutions\-focused approach, contributing to organisational effectiveness and a strong team culture.

  • Maintain flexibility in working patterns to meet operational requirements, including occasional evening and weekend events.

  • Participate in staff training, team meetings, organisational events and other activities as required.

  • Take responsibility for personal continuing professional development and identify team development needs through supervision and performance reviews.

  • Comply with CancerCare policies, procedures and relevant employment requirements.

  • Act in accordance with CancerCare’s values and actively promote its mission and vision.

  • Safeguard and enhance CancerCare’s reputation through professional, ethical and respectful conduct.

  • Undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to the level and scope of the role, as directed by the Executive Leadership Team.
Pay: £28,532\.00 per year
