Forklift & Fleet Maintenance Engineer
Plant, Forklift \& Fleet Maintenance Engineer
Glasgow \| Full or Part Time \| Flexible Working
Competitive rate – negotiable for the right candidate
UPAC Packaging Group is looking for an experienced, hands\-on engineer to help us bring more of the maintenance and repair of our own equipment and vehicle fleet in\-house.
We're less interested in your current job title than what you can actually do.
Our immediate priority is our fleet of approximately nine forklift trucks. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of servicing, preventative maintenance, fault finding and repairs.
However, we don't necessarily believe maintaining our forklift fleet requires a full\-time engineer. We are therefore very open to an experienced person looking for 2 or 3 days per week, as well as applicants interested in a full\-time position.
For someone with a broader mechanical skill set, there is also the opportunity to assist with our commercial vehicles, company vehicles and other equipment across the business.
The role
The work will include:
- Forklift servicing and preventative maintenance
- Mechanical and electrical fault finding
- Hydraulic systems, pumps, cylinders and hoses
- Brakes, steering, wheels, tyres, bearings and mast components
- Electric forklift systems, batteries and chargers
- Diagnosing breakdowns and carrying out cost\-effective repairs
- Sourcing replacement parts
- Maintaining basic service and maintenance records
- HGVs and commercial vehicles
- Company cars and other vehicles
- Warehouse machinery and equipment
- General mechanical repairs
- Welding and fabrication
Who we're looking for
You might currently be a:
Forklift Engineer \| Plant Fitter \| Field Service Engineer \| HGV Technician \| Agricultural Engineer \| Fleet Engineer \| Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
Forklift or materials\-handling experience would be particularly valuable, but we're also interested in experienced engineers from other mechanical backgrounds.
We're looking for someone who enjoys fault finding, understands preventative maintenance and has the practical ability to diagnose and repair rather than simply replace components.
Why consider UPAC?
This is an in\-house engineering position, looking after our own equipment rather than travelling from customer to customer.
For an experienced field engineer who is tired of spending their working week driving between call\-outs, this offers something different: one principal Glasgow location, our own equipment and the opportunity to take genuine ownership of its maintenance and reliability.
The position could also particularly suit an experienced or semi\-retired engineer looking for 2–3 days per week.
Equally, we would consider a full\-time candidate with the broader mechanical skills to work across forklifts, commercial vehicles and other equipment.
Location: Glasgow
Hours: Full or part time – flexible for the right person
Salary/Rate: Competitive and negotiable depending on experience, skill set and working arrangement
If you're an experienced engineer looking for an interesting and varied in\-house role, we'd like to hear from you.
Benefits:
- Casual dress
- Company pension
- Free parking
- On\-site parking
- Sick pay
- How many years of hands\-on experience do you have servicing and repairing forklift trucks or other plant/material\-handling equipment?
- Which types of forklift trucks have you worked on?
- How confident are you diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults rather than simply replacing components?
- This role is based primarily at our Glasgow site. Are you able to reliably travel to the Glasgow location?
