Your role at Protea
You own how our drones get tested. From the first hover of a new build to full fire\-suppression campaigns abroad: you plan the tests, you write the test cards, you run the campaign on site, you analyze the data and you make sure the lessons land back in the design. When something breaks, you lead the investigation and support maintenance with the engineers to get airborne again. You are the bridge between the lab in Munich and the fire line in our test and commercial markets. Full\-stack test, no silos, no three sign\-offs to launch a sortie.
What you'll do
- Plan and run flight test campaigns: objectives, test cards, success criteria, go/no\-go, safety concepts and risk assessments
- Lead operations on site: aircraft preparation, GCS setup, briefing, execution, debriefing with the team and with the firefighters we test alongside
- Instrument the aircraft with the engineers, define what gets logged, and turn flight data into findings the design team can act on
- Lead incident and crash investigations: reconstruct what happened, find the root cause, drive the fix into the next build
- Own campaign logistics together with ops: permits and airspace coordination, ground equipment, vehicles, deployment abroad
- Build the flight test process as we scale from single prototypes to a fleet: procedures, checklists, data pipeline, safety culture
- Degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering, or equivalent practical background. We care about what you've flown, not where you studied
- Hands\-on flight test experience with UAVs, eVTOL or manned aircraft: you've planned, run and debriefed real test campaigns, not simulated ones
- Solid understanding of flight mechanics, flight control systems and how to read a PX4/ArduPilot log without a manual
- Data\-driven: comfortable with AI stacks, Python or MATLAB for log analysis and test evaluation
- Calm under pressure and structured when things go wrong. You've been the person who decides whether to fly today
- Willingness to travel: campaigns run for weeks in the field during fire season
- Deep drive to flourish in a leader\-leader culture with incredible grit to build a company with us
- Good English; German not required. A remote pilot certificate (A2/STS or equivalent) or PPL is a plus, not a must
