Finance Manager / Financial Controller

We are offering a rare opportunity for a Finance Manager / Financial Controller to take full, autonomous control of the finance function within a successful, long-standing logistics business. This role is not just about maintaining the numbers; it's about shaping how finance supports the wider business, partnering with senior leadership, and building a function that leaves a lasting legacy. Day-to-day of the role:

• Lead the finance function day-to-day.


• Own the monthly close process, ensuring timely, accurate reporting and strong financial control.


• Lead all core finance activities, including management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management.


• Provide commercial insight to senior leadership, supporting decision-making across the business.


• Oversee multi-entity financial control, ensuring consistency and accuracy.


• Manage VAT, payroll and statutory compliance across UK and European jurisdictions.


• Improve and strengthen processes and controls.


• Act as a trusted finance partner to MDs and operational teams.


• Line manage a Purchase Ledger Clerk, ensuring smooth transactional finance delivery.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience in a Finance Manager / Financial Controller or similar role, within the logistics | transport | freight industry - essential.


• Strong experience in EU VAT and tax compliance, including the preparation and submission of VAT returns and ensuring compliance across multiple European jurisdictions - essential.


• Proven background in reporting, forecasting and cash flow management.


• Commercially minded with the ability to influence and add value.


• Hands-on, proactive, and comfortable working on-site in a dynamic environment.
