Finance Manager
Job Summary
We’re working with a fast growing, modern SME based in Doncaster that is looking for a capable, hands on Finance Manager to take ownership of the day to day finance function.
This is a brilliant role for someone who likes variety, responsibility and making things better. You’ll be the main finance person internally, supported by external accountants for higher level technical work, but you’ll own the finance function day to day.
The business is ambitious, fast paced and actively improving how it works. We’re looking for someone who can keep the basics running brilliantly, payments, reconciliations, expenses, reporting and cashflow \- but who also enjoys spotting clunky processes and using technology, automation and AI to make finance slicker and more reliable.
Responsibilities
You’ll take responsibility for the everyday finance operations across the business, including:
- Reconciling payments and keeping financial records accurate and up to date
- Managing supplier, customer and client payments
- Processing expenses and making sure they are dealt with promptly
- Producing weekly cashflow updates and monthly finance reports
- Preparing clear, useful reporting packs for the leadership team
- Supporting month end processes and management accounts
- Keeping on top of invoicing, refunds, adjustments and overdue payments
- Managing recurring costs, subscriptions, insurance policies and renewals
- Creating better systems, processes and controls as the business grows
- Working with external accountants, banks, insurers and other finance related partners
- Helping introduce dashboards, automation and clearer reporting so the business has better visibility of performance
We’re looking for someone who is confident owning the finance function in a small business environment and has an interest in implementing or using AI to streamline finance functions to make their life easier!
You’ll probably suit this role if you are:
- Comfortable being the only internal finance person
- Highly organised, accurate and reliable
- Confident with Xero or similar accounting software
- Good at cashflow, reconciliations, payments, expenses and reporting
- Able to work independently without needing constant guidance
- Happy to get stuck into the doing, not just talk about what needs fixing
- Curious about automation, AI and better ways of working
- Calm under pressure and able to prioritise when things are moving quickly
- Commercially aware, with the confidence to flag issues early
- Comfortable working closely with senior leadership in a small team
This is a small team, so everyone gets involved. We need someone who can be trusted to get on with things, keep the wheels turning, and quietly make the finance function stronger week by week.
We’re not looking for someone who says, “That’s not my job.”
We’re looking for someone who says, “I’ve spotted a better way to do this”
Why Join?
This is a chance to properly own finance in a growing, entrepreneurial business.
You’ll have the opportunity to bring structure, improve systems, introduce better reporting, and make a visible impact on how the business operates. For the right person, it’s a role with real scope to shape the finance function rather than simply maintain it.
