Finance Manager
We're seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join our team on a part\-time basis and provide strategic financial leadership across the charity.
Cathays Community Centre is seeking a Finance Manager to oversee our financial operations and support the continued development of our charity. In this pivotal role, you will act as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director, delivering high\-level strategic financial insights to secure our long\-term sustainability. You will also lead, mentor, and develop a dedicated team of three staff members, ensuring smooth day\-to\-day operations. The ideal candidate will bring proven hands\-on expertise in using Xero.

Purpose of the Role
The Finance Manager will oversee all financial management, accounting, and compliance activities for Cathays Community Centre. The role balances hands\-on operational leadership with strategic financial planning, providing direct decision\-making support to the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate financial analysis, reporting, and strategic advice to support the Executive Director and Board in decision\-making.
- Develop long\-term financial forecasts, budgets, models, and sustainability plans to support the organisation's growth and resilience.
- Lead, manage, mentor, and support a small team of three finance and administrative staff.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, budget monitoring reports, and variance analyses.
- Oversee all day\-to\-day financial operations, including invoicing, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and financial controls.
- Monitor grant income and expenditure, ensuring compliance with funder requirements and accurate financial reporting.
- Support the Development Manager and Project Managers with funding applications, including the preparation of financial budgets, forecasts, and reports for grant funders and stakeholders.
- Maintain and further develop the organisation's financial systems and processes within Xero and Sage. Advanced proficiency in Xero is essential.
- Lead the preparation of annual statutory accounts and coordinate the year\-end audit or independent examination process.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial, charity, company, and tax regulations, including requirements of HMRC, Companies House, and the Charity Commission.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, processes, and reporting to enhance organisational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Proven ability to lead, manage, and support staff.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non\-financial audiences.
- Self\-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
- Reliable, professional, and able to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Significant experience in a finance management role.
- Essential experience utilizing Xero accounting software packages.
- Proven track record of managing and developing line reports.
- Experience working within the voluntary, charity, or public sector is highly desirable.
- Advanced proficiency in Xero
- Strong understanding of charity accounting practices and fund accounting (restricted vs. unrestricted funds).
