FINANCE MANAGER

Caldy Golf Club, Wirral

Salary: £40,000 per annum
Permanent, full time \| Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm \| Based at the Club

Founded in 1907, Caldy Golf Club is an established private members’ club on the Wirral, with a thriving membership and a commitment to delivering an outstanding experience for members and visitors.

We are seeking an experienced, highly organised Finance Manager to take responsibility for the Club’s day\-to\-day finances and provide clear, reliable financial information to support its continued development.

Reporting to the General Manager and working closely with the Operations Manager, Chair of Finance and external accountants, you will play an important and trusted role within the Club. This is a hands\-on position offering variety, responsibility and the opportunity to improve financial systems, strengthen controls and contribute to the Club’s future.

The Role

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Managing bookkeeping, purchase and sales ledgers, supplier invoices, payment runs and credit control.


• Reconciling bank, merchant and control accounts, investigating discrepancies and maintaining accurate financial records.


• Administering and reconciling membership subscriptions and income across golf, visitors, competitions, clubhouse activities and events.


• Preparing monthly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments and journals, with clear reporting on performance against budget.


• Supporting annual budgets, forecasts and cash\-flow planning, helping managers monitor expenditure and assess proposed investment.


• Processing or coordinating payroll and pension administration.


• Maintaining VAT records and preparing returns, working with the Club’s external advisers where required.


• Preparing year\-end schedules and liaising with external accountants.


• Maintaining effective financial controls, audit trails, documented procedures and a clear calendar of recurring deadlines.


• Responding professionally to financial queries from members, suppliers and colleagues.


• Identifying practical opportunities to improve accounting systems, reporting and administrative processes.

Working alongside the management team, you will also coordinate health and safety administration, maintaining records, tracking review dates and following up agreed actions.

There may be scope to support HR administration, including employee records, onboarding and training records, depending on your experience and the agreed remit. HR experience is welcome but is not essential, with specialist matters supported by the appropriate managers and advisers.

About You

You may already be a Finance Manager, Club Accountant or Senior Bookkeeper looking for an opportunity to take ownership of a varied finance function.

We are looking for someone who brings:

• Strong practical accounting experience, including ledgers, reconciliations, VAT, payroll and management accounts.


• An understanding of budgeting, cash flow and financial controls.


• Confidence using accounting software, cloud\-based systems and Excel.


• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to organise workloads and meet deadlines independently.


• Good communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information clearly to non\-finance colleagues.


• A professional, approachable manner when dealing with members, suppliers and the wider team.


• Discretion, integrity and sound judgement when handling confidential information.


• A proactive approach and a willingness to suggest and implement improvements.

Formal accounting or bookkeeping qualifications would be advantageous, although equivalent practical experience is equally valued.

Experience within a golf club, private members’ club, hospitality or leisure business would be helpful, but is not essential. You do not need to play golf to succeed in this role.
