Are you a commercially minded Finance Director looking for the opportunity to play a pivotal role in the future direction of an established and ambitious business?

We are recruiting for a Finance Director to join a successful organisation within the transport and logistics sector, based in Dover. Working closely with the Managing Director and senior leadership team, you will take ownership of the finance function while becoming a key strategic partner to the wider business.

This is much more than a traditional finance role. You will use financial insight to challenge, influence and support commercial decision-making, helping the business improve profitability, manage costs and identify opportunities for sustainable growth.

The role

As Finance Director, you will have responsibility for the financial performance and control of the business, while contributing directly to its wider commercial strategy.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading and developing the finance function, ensuring robust financial controls and processes


• Working alongside the Managing Director and senior leadership team on business strategy and planning


• Providing clear commercial and financial insight to support key decisions


• Leading budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning


• Monitoring profitability, margins, costs and operational performance


• Developing meaningful KPIs and management information across the business


• Identifying opportunities to improve efficiencies and financial performance


• Managing cash flow, working capital and funding requirements


• Providing financial modelling and analysis around investment and growth opportunities


• Challenging operational performance and driving accountability across the organisation


• Managing statutory reporting, audit, tax and regulatory requirements


• Building strong relationships with banks, auditors and other external stakeholders


• Leading, mentoring and developing the wider finance team


• Supporting the continued development of systems, processes and financial reporting

We are looking for an established senior finance professional who combines strong technical knowledge with a genuinely commercial approach.

You will ideally:

• Be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)


• Have experience operating at Finance Director, Head of Finance, Financial Controller or equivalent senior level


• Have worked within transport, logistics, distribution, freight or another operationally complex environment


• Have strong commercial awareness and the confidence to challenge and influence senior stakeholders


• Understand the importance of margins, cost control, cash flow and operational efficiency


• Be comfortable moving between strategic decision-making and the detail behind the numbers


• Have experience leading and developing a finance team


• Be able to translate financial information into clear, actionable commercial insight.
