Finance Assistant – Payroll \& Cashbook
Job Purpose
The Finance Assistant – Payroll \& Cashbook will provide accurate and timely financial administration and support across the wider finance function, with particular responsibility for the processing of wages/payroll and the maintenance of cash book records.
The role will assist with the day\-to\-day operation of the finance department, ensuring financial transactions are accurately recorded, reconciliations are completed, records are maintained, and finance processes are carried out efficiently and within agreed deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll \& Wages
- Process weekly/monthly payroll information accurately and within agreed deadlines.
- Prepare and input timesheets, overtime, deductions, expenses and other payroll\-related information.
- Check payroll information for accuracy and resolve discrepancies with relevant managers or employees.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and supporting documentation.
- Assist with payroll reports and reconciliations.
- Ensure payroll transactions are correctly recorded in the accounting system.
- Liaise with employees and relevant departments regarding payroll queries.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling employee pay and personal information.
- Support year\-end payroll processes and provide information required for statutory reporting.
- Maintain accurate and up\-to\-date cash book records.
- Record cash, card and bank transactions promptly and accurately.
- Post receipts, payments, transfers and other financial transactions to the accounting system.
- Provide general day\-to\-day support to the Assistant Financial Controller and wider finance team.
- Assist with purchase ledger, sales ledger and accounts payable/receivable activities as required.
- Process invoices, credit notes, receipts and other financial transactions.
- Provide cover for other members of the finance team when required.
- Undertake other reasonable finance\-related duties appropriate to the role.
Essential
- Previous experience in a finance, accounts or payroll administration role.
- Good numerical and attention\-to\-detail skills.
- Experience of processing payroll/wages or maintaining financial records.
- Good understanding of cash book and banking transactions.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and accounting/payroll systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across the organisation.
- Willingness to support a broad range of finance activities and take on additional responsibilities when required.
- Experience using accounting software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks or similar.
- Experience using payroll software.
- AAT qualification or working towards an accounting qualification.
- Knowledge of payroll legislation and statutory deductions.
- Experience of bank reconciliations and month\-end procedures.
- Experience working across multiple areas of a finance function.
- Accurate and methodical approach.

- Proactive approach to identifying and resolving discrepancies.

Reports to: Assistant Financial Controller
Key working relationships: Finance team, HR, managers, employees, external payroll/accounting providers and banking contacts.
Pay: £30,000\.00\-£33,000\.00 per year
