Finance (and Payroll) Lead – Part-Time (0.4–0.5 FTE)
Location: Fully remote
Contract: Fixed-term (minimum 6 months, with potential to extend)
Pay: £18 per hour
Hours: Flexible working pattern (0.4–0.5 FTE)

Reed Further Education is partnering with a dynamic Higher Education organisation to recruit an experienced Finance (and Payroll) Lead on a part-time, fully remote basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of a key finance function, working closely with senior leadership while benefiting from a highly flexible working arrangement.

The Opportunity

This role sits at the heart of the organisation, bridging day-to-day financial operations and board-level oversight. Working alongside the CEO and Treasurer, you will play a vital role in maintaining financial stability, strengthening governance, and enabling effective decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of finance operations, including invoicing, payments, and bank management


• Oversee payroll processes, working with external providers and ensuring compliance with HMRC and statutory requirements


• Prepare and manage budgets, supporting senior stakeholders with financial planning


• Produce monthly management accounts and financial reports to inform decision-making


• Ensure strong financial controls, accurate reporting, and regulatory compliance


• Support board-level reporting, providing clear financial insight to non-finance stakeholders


• Conduct reconciliations across payroll, bank, and control accounts


• Identify opportunities to improve finance systems and processes

About You

We’re looking for a proactive and detail-oriented finance professional who thrives in a remote working environment. You will bring:

• Proven experience in finance and payroll delivery (education sector desirable)


• Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail


• Confidence working independently and managing your own workload


• The ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues


• A collaborative approach when working with senior leaders and trustees

Qualifications

Essential:

• Qualification in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, or Business Administration
