Job Title: Field Engineer (Beat the Street), Eastern Thurrock (servicing Beat Boxes for the Sept/Oct 2026 Beat the Street game in Eastern Thurrock).

Position: Self\-employed contractor, up to 6 week assignment – Immediate Start

Fees: Minimum fee of £100 for each week plus additional hours in the same week paid at £15 per hour \+ mileage at 35p a mile

Intelligent Health Ltd are looking for a hard\-working, reliable Field Engineer to work with us on our Beat the Street project in Eastern Thurrock. No previous experience is required and full training will be provided.

Beat the Street is an evidence\-based community programme which uses gamification to incentivise positive behaviours including physical activity, active travel, and connecting with the local environment and to each other. The game phase uses RFID sensors called Beat Boxes placed on lamp posts, signposts and other street furniture around an area. Players are given cards which they tap on the Beat Boxes, earning points as they travel around.

The Field Engineer will support the smooth running of the live Beat the Street game by providing technical services across the Eastern Thurrock game area. This will include Beat Box maintenance including replacing batteries, resetting non\-responsive Beat Boxes and replacing units that have been identified as faulty by the Intelligent Health technical team.

Assignments will be offered as technical jobs arise. Where an assignment is accepted, the location and work schedule will be agreed, services may include evenings and weekends.

The Field Engineer will maintain timely communication with Intelligent Health about problems with Beat Boxes. The contractor will complete any necessary training stipulated by Intelligent Health and will only accept work where they have the skills, knowledge and/or qualifications required to undertake it competently and effectively.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on Beat the Street in Eastern Thurrock, starting on 24th September or ASAP for a period of 5/6 weeks. We are looking for a hard\-working, reliable person with a good attitude to work and a willingness to help deliver a successful game.

Duties

• Replace low or depleted batteries inside Beat Boxes.


• Reset faulty or non\-responsive Beat Boxes.


• Swap Beat Boxes that have been identified as faulty.


• Inform Intelligent Health of any problems with Beat Boxes in a timely manner.


• Undertake accepted assignments in line with the agreed location, work schedule, specifications and codes of practice.


• If unable to conduct scheduled work, inform Intelligent Health before the scheduled start time and provide as much notice as reasonably practicable.


• Travel safely and reliably around the Eastern Thurrock game area with the equipment required for each accepted assignment.


• Submit invoices monthly. Intelligent Health will pay invoices within 14 days of the invoice date.


• Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed where agreed in writing by Intelligent Health and supported by an invoice and appropriate receipts.

Skills \& Competencies

• Able to undertake the agreed Field Engineer services competently and effectively and complete any training stipulated by Intelligent Health.


• Access to suitable transport to travel around the Eastern Thurrock game area with the equipment required for assignments.


• A smartphone with internet access.


• Ability to lift and handle the equipment required for the services safely.


• Good communication skills and able to inform the Project Officer of Beat Box problems in a timely manner.


• Good organisation and ability to manage your own time and activity independently.


• Able to provide services during the assignment period, which may include evenings and weekends.


• If unavailable for scheduled work, able to notify Intelligent Health before the scheduled start time and provide as much notice as reasonably practicable.


• May provide a suitably skilled and qualified substitute in accordance with the Contract of Services.


• Responsible for your own business accounts, tax, National Insurance and other liabilities arising from the services provided.


• Work location: In person across the Eastern Thurrock game area.

This role is offered on a self\-employed contractor basis. Before commencing the assignment, the successful contractor must be appropriately registered with HMRC or operate through an incorporated limited company, and hold Public Liability insurance with a minimum cover of £10,000,000, with evidence of cover provided when signing the Contract of Services.
