HOURS: Weekends only. Mainly Saturday and Sunday. This post may involve other occasional days as the business needs.
LOCATION: South East London SE23 and SE6
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Senior Family Assessment Worker or in their absence, Deputy Manager or Registered Manager.
FUNCTION: To ensure that children and their families receive appropriate practical and emotional support using a mixed programme of home visiting, informal parent/carer support groups, structured and closed groups run within the children’s centre.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1\. To work alongside families in the residential centre and the wider community offering practical and emotional support, enabling families to help themselves, and supporting adults in their role as parents or carers. This could include helping parents develop household routines, behaviour management strategies and parenting skills and assisting them to link with other services.
2\. To work supportively with families, including the extended family, to ensure children’s needs for care and security are met within the family whenever possible, developing agreed action plans with them. To identify and monitor closely any child protection issues and to notify management of any concerns immediately
3\. To build up knowledge and understanding of local resources and community and statutory services, including Mental Health Teams, Social Services, Education, Health and voluntary services, and communicate effectively with them in the best interests of the child and family.
6\. To support the delivery of crèches and universal services as may be necessary, and to use these groups as an opportunity to assist EY practitioners to identify families' unmet needs.
7\. Help plan creative and innovative responses to families’ and individual’s needs, keep high quality records and prepare reports for statutory processes such as CIN / CLA / LAC meetings and CP conferences.
8\. To undertake the role of lead professional where appropriate.
9\. To work alongside other Family practitioners and other agencies, taking the lead in running and developing group work to meet the identified needs of family members
10\. To assist families to access, build and maintain effective relationships with the Centres and other support services. To participate and contribute to meetings with external agencies, to advocate in meetings on behalf of families and, where appropriate involve families in such meetings.
11\. To identify and monitor closely any child protection issues and to notify the Senior Family Assessment Worker of any concerns immediately
12\. To attend regularly and participate actively in team meetings and other meetings that might be arranged.
13\. To undertake training according to the needs of the service.

Changing generations recognises the statutory responsibility of the social services department to ensure the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. We are committed to working together with the local authority and other agencies to protect children and their parents.
General responsibilities:
- Help create and maintain a nurturing and learning environment within the house.
- Ensure a high standard of social work practice.
- Ensure a reasonable standard of childcare and general house management.
- Keep abreast of current legislation which informs and prescribes our work, paying particular attention to the Children Act 1989, 2004 and the Children \& Families Act 2014\.The Residential Family Centres Regulations 2002 (amended 2013\) \& Residential Family Centres National Minimum Standards 2013 (Amended 2018\)
- Work within the Working Together to Safeguard Children Guidance 2018
- Work in accordance with the Organisation’s Health and Safety policies
- Work in accordance with Changing Generations JP Ltd Equal Opportunities policies
- Perform waking nights duties (dependent of position being applied for) and work a rota as required.
- Perform domestic duties as required by the Manager or Deputy
- Perform such additional tasks as may be required by the Manager.
- Be involved in the system of key working
- Work in partnership with parents, colleagues, social workers \& other agencies to improve the service offered to families.
- Liaise closely with staff team to establish contracts \& plans of work for each family.
- As keyworker, liaise closely with Lead Social Workers, Managers, parents \& social worker when drawing up contract \& plan of work.
- Work with and alongside parents on the tasks of daily living.
- Enable parents to acquire the skills of parenting \& independent living.
- Monitor \& supervise parents where necessary in the care of their children.
- Be involved in the assessment of parents in the care of their children.
- Share with parents the content of all reports personally compiled before wider distribution.
- Encourage parents to participate in house activities \& groups.
- Inform parents of community facilities available \& encourage their appropriate use.
- Be involved in resettlement of family as required in consultation with the placing local authority.
- To keep records of day to day running of the house using house diary, message/Handover book \& daily report sheets on individual families
- To contribute to the writing of reports for reviews, court, end of placement etc. as appropriate.
- To attend case conferences, reviews, planning meetings as required.
- To attend court hearings \& give evidence when appropriate.
- In consultation with Senior Family Assessment Practitioner Manager or Deputy, liaise with outside agencies to make use of resources available in the community to enhance work with parents \& children.
- To update risk assessments in liaison with the Lead Social Worker and/ Manager.
- carry out various administrative tasks as appropriate e.g. completion of the weekly reflections of the week.
- To attend resident meetings as required.
- In consultation with Manager or Deputy, liaise with outside agencies to promote the work of Changing Generations JP Ltd by receiving visitors, students etc.
- Attend supervision with either the Manager or Deputy and appraisal sessions; participate in own appraisal.
- Attend appropriate training courses as arranged to meet training needs identified in appraisal and to enhance professional development.
- Attend group consultancy sessions with outside consultant.
- Attend weekly staff meetings and weekly resident case review meetings.
Pay: £13\.00 per hour
