Exterior Operations Manager

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a proactive Operations Manager with strong operational and strategic capability, experience in logistics, exterior maintenance or gritting, and a solid understanding of horticulture. You’ll excel at team management, relationship building and contractor oversight, bringing commercial awareness and a practical, can‑do approach to everything you do.

Purpose and objectives of the role

To manage exterior operations department to deliver exterior landscaping maintenance services to a high standard whilst maximising profitability.

Experience Required Full clean driving licence. 3\-5 years operational management experience. Previous exterior landscaping maintenance experience is desirable.

Hours 45 hours, Monday\-Friday with some weekend and out of hours working

Main duties and responsibilities

Managerial

· To handle all HR tasks relating to the exterior landscaping team including but not limited to, recruitment, absence management, feedback and performance management

· Overall responsibility for training and development of the exterior team.

· Salary planning

Financial

· To reach targeted gross profit margins on contracts whilst maintaining an excellent level of service.

Operational

· To develop an in\-depth site knowledge of the sites and specifications for these contracts.

· Scheduling

· To ensure quality delivery of all services under the remit of the exterior maintenance team.

· To manage the operational delivery of gritting and snow clearing services to clients.

· Liaise with Contracts Managers and manage operational teams to resolve any customer complaints or requests

· To ensure a seamless mobilisation of all new exterior landscaping contracts \- work with contract managers, conduct site visits prior to the job starting.

· Operations Reviews – To schedule and ensure all operations reviews are conducted as required. Programming, documenting, with clear actions set, conducting follow up and ensuring results.

· Vehicle Checks

· Follow up on audits of vehicle and machinery checks conducted by Operations assistants.

· Manage the team to support the delivery of seasonal displays and interior landscaping services when required.

· To deliver service excellence in line with the GP Way.

· To manage exterior maintenance, exterior landscaping and winter services partner contractors.

· To conduct post installation site visits

· To continually develop the service provision of exterior landscaping services through innovation and development of best practice.

Health and Safety

· To comply with all health and safety responsibilities

· Ensure you and the department comply with Company health and safety procedures, including the wearing of relevant PPE.

· Ensure all equipment is serviced and maintained as per scheduled to maintain a safe working order.

· To work with the HSEQ Manager to develop health and safety policies, procedures and training materials including toolbox talks to ensure compliance for the exterior operational team. Delivery of training where required.

Reporting and Communication

· To prepare reports as required in relation to the operational performance and management of the exterior landscaping team.

· Monitoring all actual hours on site against planned

· Conduct regular team meetings.

Other responsibilities

· Act in an appropriate manner at all times as per the “GP Way”.

· Any other duties reasonably requested.
