Engineering Shift Team Lead (Night Shift) Location: Hamilton, South Lanarkshire
Shift Pattern: Nights, 4 on / 4 off
Salary: Up to £58,000
MRD Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting for an experienced Engineering Shift Lead(Electrical Bias) on behalf of our manufacturing client based in Hamilton.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineering professional with strong leadership experience to join a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will lead a team of engineers on shift, ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of production and site equipment while driving continuous improvement and engineering excellence.
The Role As Engineering Shift Lead, you will be responsible for coordinating all engineering and maintenance activities during your shift, ensuring plant reliability, minimising downtime, and supporting production targets.
Key Responsibilities • Lead, motivate, and supervise a team of maintenance engineers on shift
- Prioritise and delegate planned and reactive maintenance activities
- Provide hands-on fault finding and repair support across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Respond effectively to equipment breakdowns to minimise production downtime
- Support the delivery of preventative and predictive maintenance programmes
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, quality, and food safety standards
- Work closely with Production, Quality, and Operational teams to resolve engineering issues
- Monitor engineering performance, downtime trends, and maintenance completion through CMMS systems
- Lead root cause analysis investigations and implement corrective actions
- Support the training and development of engineers and technicians
- Deliver effective shift handovers and communicate key issues to management
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant performance and reliability
- A minimum of 5 years' experience within an engineering or maintenance role in a manufacturing environment
- At least 2 years' experience leading or supervising engineering teams
- Strong fault-finding and maintenance experience across mechanical and electrical systems
- Experience working with conveyors, packaging equipment, automation, and site utilities
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance best practices and CMMS systems
- The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
- A proactive, problem-solving approach and the ability to perform under pressure
- IOSH qualification
- Food Safety certification
- PLC fault-finding and troubleshooting experience
- Permanent night shift pattern (4 on / 4 off)
