Engineering Shift Leader

Purpose of Role:

Engineering Shift Leaders will work to offer the best possible support to engineering customers in production. The primary purpose of the role is to be the engineering focal point for production support in the factory. This extends to collaborating on a daily basis with production area managers, team leaders and operators. The Engineering Shift Leader will also provide engineering ownership, leadership and compliance within the factory. In addition, Engineering Shift Leaders will lead and assist other engineering team members in providing safe and effective initial and ongoing responses to emergent equipment breakdowns and system defects within the production areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Adhering to all company regulation, safety, hygiene and quality procedures

  • Identifying and recording safety issues such as near misses and accidents

  • Deputising for the Site Engineering Manager when required

  • Attending production / project meetings on behalf of engineering when required

  • Providing training, coaching and mentoring to other engineering colleagues as required

  • Leading and contributing to Root Cause Analyses as required

  • Maintaining and repairing all production equipment, machinery and systems

  • Prioritising defect and repair work as required

  • Writing high quality end\-of\-shift reports and defect reports Identifying spares requirements and ensuring these are ordered or passed on to line managers

  • Identifying and recommending improvements to machine reliability and efficiency

  • Liaising with, assisting and monitoring external contract workers

  • Lead, supervise and support the engineering team during the shift

  • Allocate engineering resources and prioritise maintenance activities according to operational requirements

  • Any other reasonable tasks as required by managers in any area
Essential Skills \& Experience:
  • Recognised engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience

  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical engineering background

  • Previous experience in a maintenance, manufacturing or production environment

  • Previous supervisory or team\-leadership experience

  • Ability to fault\-find and diagnose equipment failures

  • Good understanding of planned preventative maintenance systems

  • Strong health \& safety awareness

  • Ability to prioritise workload and make effective decisions under pressure

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work effectively with production, operations and management teams
Engineering Shift Leaders will work as part of the engineering department under the direction and guidance of the Site Engineering Manager.
