Engineering Manager
<p><span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">Flow Traders is strengthening leadership across its Product Development department and is hiring an Engineering Manager in London. As the firm scales, the quality of engineering management has become one of the most important factors in how well our teams grow, retain talent, and deliver - and this role exists to raise that bar.</span></p>
<p>Engineering Managers are accountable for the planning and people side of the organisation - project deliveries, growth, performance, culture and hiring - and partner with technical leads who own architecture, technical direction, and hands-on execution. The two work in close partnership; neither succeeds without the other.</p>
<p>You will be measured on the engineers you develop and the outcomes your team delivers. You will spend the large majority of your time leading people and managing delivery.</p>

<h4>What you will do:</h4>
<ul>

<div data-olk-copy-source="MailCompose">Own the roadmap: manage priorities, planning, and sequencing of the work in line with company goals.</div>

<div>Develop your engineers: own career planning, promotions, coaching, and structured, continuous performance management.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Plan and build the team: lead hiring, headcount planning, and resource allocation in line with the team's roadmap and the firm's priorities.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Cultivate a healthy team: actively manage culture, morale, and productivity, and address conflict early and constructively.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Lead with rhythm: hold regular one-on-ones, give clear and timely feedback, and invest in team building.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Translate technical and business requirements into clear delivery plans, identifying dependencies with other teams and risks up front.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Act as the liaison between Engineering, Trading, and Quant teams to design and roll out new products.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Drive delivery predictability: track progress against plan, manage risk and scope trade-offs, and report status clearly to stakeholders.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Continuously improve delivery processes and team velocity.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Ensure alignment: keep your team's work connected to organisational goals and delivery timelines, collaborating closely with Tech Leads and Staff Engineers on technical direction.</div>

<h4>What you need to succeed:</h4>
<ul>
<li>
<div data-olk-copy-source="MailCompose">Strong project management skills: experience building roadmaps, sequencing work, managing dependencies and risk, and driving delivery predictability in a fast-moving environment.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>A technical background sufficient to earn the respect of the engineers you manage and to engage credibly in technical discussions.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Demonstrated experience leading, growing, and managing the performance of software engineers.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>A track record of delivering software through a team, balancing scope, quality, and timelines.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Strong people-leadership skills: coaching, feedback, conflict resolution, and building an environment in which engineers thrive.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Sound judgment in hiring and developing talent.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Excellent communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including experience managing cross-functional stakeholders (e.g. Trading, Quant).</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>Based in Amsterdam, or willing to relocate.</div>
</li>
