Manufacturing Engineer \- Modules
-------------------------------------

Location: Derby, Manchester or Warrington with hybrid working.

Part Time up to 3 days a week

About the opportunity (part\-time \+ flexible by design)
------------------------------------------------------------

We’re recruiting a part\-time Manufacturing Engineer to join our Modules team, helping shape how nuclear power plant modular products are assembled and tested—both in a UK factory environment and across an international supply chain.

Flexibility matters here. This role is designed to work for people who need non\-standard patterns—whether that’s set days, shorter days, school\-hours, job share, or a compressed arrangement. We’ll agree a working pattern with you and your line manager that supports delivery *and* your life outside work.

The role in a nutshell
--------------------------

We need you to help develop Methods of Manufacture and supporting documentation/instructions from concept stage through to production, ensuring modules are manufacturable, testable and ready for deployment at scale.

You’ll collaborate across design, operations, supply chain, procurement, quality and construction management to ensure modules are designed and built for smooth installation and long\-term operation.

In this role, we need you to:

  • Lead or support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities relating to manufacturing methods for SMR modules.

  • Assess engineering design definitions at varying maturity levels and translate them into practical manufacturing documentation and instructions.

  • Apply Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) principles—spotting manufacturability risks, proposing design improvements, and contributing actionable recommendations into design reviews.

  • Support the design and deployment of assembly, test and inspection capability within an advanced facility, including trials/experiments and process capability studies.

  • Help define, deliver and improve manufacturing engineering processes and best\-practice guidance, aligned to relevant digital tools (e.g., ERP/MES/PLM/QMS).

  • Work with selected strategic partners to align capability, quality expectations, compliance, schedules, and continuous improvement.
What we need from you
-------------------------

We’re looking for someone who can bring practical, hands\-on manufacturing engineering experience and apply it in a regulated, high\-integrity environment. We need you to demonstrate:

  • Strong experience creating or qualifying manufacturing methods and translating design intent into production\-ready documentation.

  • Confident application of DfMA: tolerance thinking, material/process compatibility, tooling considerations, and design\-for\-assembly practicality.

  • Ability to work cross\-functionally (design, operations, supply chain, quality) to move designs into manufacturable solutions.

  • Comfort working within controlled environments and contributing to governance/approval of manufacturing methods, including within external supply chains.
Important: There’s no such thing as the “perfect” candidate. If you feel you meet around 75% of what we need, we’d love to hear from you.

It would be beneficial if you also bring:

  • A professional engineering qualification (e.g., HND/foundation degree or national equivalent) in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering, or related.

  • Professional accreditation (e.g., IEng/CEng) and/or project management certification (e.g., PMP/APM).

  • Experience in nuclear, energy, aerospace, or major infrastructure environments (or similarly regulated sectors).

  • Awareness of export control compliance and regulated ways of working.
