The Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (MPS) in Göttingen is one of the world's leading research institutions in the fields of solar physics and planetary research, with approximately 300 employees. The interdisciplinary research focus lies in the investigation of the development, diversity, and dynamics of planets, moons, small bodies, the sun, and solar-like stars. MPS develops and operates scientific instruments for current and future space missions (e.g., ESA, NASA) and conducts cosmochemical laboratory investigations of meteorites as well as numerical modeling on state-of-the-art supercomputers.

For the development of the Photospheric Magnetic field Imager PMI (https://www.mps.mpg.de/pmi) for the ESA’s VIGIL mission (https://www.esa.int/Space\_Safety/Vigil), the institute is looking for a

Electronics Engineer (f/m/d)

Your Tasks

As an electronics engineer, you will work as part of a team on electronics hardware developed for a scientific space instrument in collaboration with the project team and international external partners.

Your Qualification


  • a university degree in the areas of electronics, or related fields

  • a good knowledge of analogue and digital circuit technology

  • the ability to develop analogue and digital microelectronics hardware independently

  • knowledge of common programming tools (Python, etc.)

  • a good command of English

  • a strong physical and technical understanding

  • a structured way of working and be able to track and document your work

  • the willingness to participate in international business trips

  • the willingness to work in clean rooms and to comply with the required regulations

Advantageous would be experience with / knowledge of


  • the development of analogue and digital electronics from design to test and operation

  • high reliability electronics following MIL or ESA Standards

  • Experience with sensitive opto-electro-mechanical assemblies

  • Knowledge about the design of FPGAs
