Electrical Fitter
Job Summary
The Electrical Fitter is responsible for the accurate, safe, and efficient construction, installation, and wiring of electrical systems on locomotives. Reporting to the Electrical Team Leader, the role ensures that all electrical work is completed to engineering specifications, quality standards, and health \& safety requirements. The Electrical Fitter works closely with the manufacturing and engineering teams to deliver fully operational locomotives on schedule. The Electrical Fitter will also have additional adhoc duties within the service department.
Responsibilities
· Install, assemble, and wire electrical systems, components, and control equipment according to engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.
· Ensure all electrical work meets quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
· Test and commission electrical circuits and systems to verify correct operation.
· Identify and troubleshoot electrical faults, implementing corrective actions as required.
· Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in line with company health and safety policies.
· Collaborate with the Electrical Team Leader, engineering, and manufacturing teams to resolve issues and support production schedules.
· Record work completed, including wiring diagrams, test results, and inspection reports.
· Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.
Adhoc duties supporting the Service Department/Engineers as and when instructed:
· Support the execution of customer service contracts in accordance with contractual and technical requirements.
· Commission new locomotives at customer sites, both domestically and internationally, ensuring safe and compliant operation.
· Provide on\-site fault finding, diagnostics, and technical support for mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
· Liaise with customers, operators, and maintenance personnel to resolve technical issues efficiently.
· Deliver operational and maintenance training courses to customer personnel, tailored to contract and fleet requirements.
· Prepare and maintain accurate service reports, commissioning records, and technical documentation.
· Support warranty investigations, failure analysis, and corrective action implementation.
· Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and spare parts teams to resolve service issues and improve product reliability.
Promote and maintain high standards of safety, quality, and professionalism while working on customer sites.
Key Skills and Experience
· Proven experience in electrical assembly, installation, fitting, in heavy machinery, locomotives, or industrial environments.
· Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
· Knowledge of electrical safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to high\-quality workmanship.
· Good problem\-solving skills and ability to work under supervision or independently.
· Effective communication and teamwork skills.
· Accuracy and attention to detail in all electrical work.
· Safety\-conscious with a proactive approach to risk management.
· Ability to work efficiently to meet production schedules.
Team\-oriented mindset with willingness to learn and follow technical guidance.
Education and Qualifications
Level 3 minimum qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Must be eligible to work in the UK
Must have a full UK driving licence
Pay: £34,320\.00\-£38,000\.00 per year
